Let's be honest about Max/Volk

I've long been one of Max's biggest proponents on this forum and have taken my lumps over the years for maintaining my support in the face of his losses. I couldn't care less what people think, and I'll be here until Max hangs em up. I think Max won that second fight, but it was close and can see how people would give it to Volkanovski.

Rather than make Max fans look like shit heads by making posts like these, why don't we just appreciate the fights that Max has taken part of and the moments of greatness he's given us? Volkanovski has proven to be one of the most intelligent, tactical and well rounded fighters I've ever had the pleasure of watching in MMA. He's an incredible fighter and he's proven that he's a step ahead of Max, whether it be on angles, leg kicks, game planning or alterations mid-fight. Appreciate him and his skill.

While I'll always be a bigger fan of Max, I am a fan of Volk as he's an amazing fighter and a good guy. You can be a fan of and appreciate both. You should.

It's better to accept the fact Volk is better than Max mate, no coping is healthy for you.

Volk went 1-1 against Max and then won in the trilogy with an uncharacteristically bad performance from Max.

You guys are new fans who still treat MMA like rock paper scissors. Watch a different professional sport sometime. Team or athletes get blown out all the time. Even top fighters look like dog shit from time to time. Remember how bad Jones looked against Thiago Santos? Or Liddell against Vernon White and Jeremy Horn? How about GSP against Jake Shields?

Even if you give Max the second fight he's still 1-2, just let it go.

Maybe they'll met again under a Golden Boy card when they're both in their forties, but aside from that, it's over.

It's not like there's no way that Max can beat Volk, they're definitely closely matched. It's just that Volk has proven he's got the slight edge over 15 rounds, so I don't see the intrigue in a fourth fight.

If Max wins, do they do best of seven? I think his best case scenario is Volk beats Islam and goes to 155, with the added bonus for us that we will then likely get to see Max vs Topuria for the vacant belt.

Max needs to learn to kick more, much more, if he wants to consider winning against Volk in a fourth fight.

so he can get taken down? Max will never have a kicking game like Yair and Volk was catching kicks, countering and securing takedowns from a far more diverse and polished striker.

Volk is just a better fighter than Max. Nothing against Max, he’s clearly #2 in the division and an all time great but Volk is a stylistic nightmare and just better fighter than Max is. Zero shame in that fact.

Point to one statement that I said that makes "Max fans look like shitheads." In other words, makes me look like a shithead.

Because I think their fourth fight would be competitive and I think it's naive to assess their trilogy on the grounds of being 0-3 (1-2 in your opinion) and because I don't put as much stock into Volk smoking Max in the trilogy - no finish or 10-8s just Max looking slow and a step behind all fight...

And who said I wasn't a Volk fan. Get off your high horse.

Max kept the third fight close until Volk opened up that huge cut over his eye and Max couldn't see as well. It still doesn't change that until that happened, Volk was still winning in the same manner he always had, utilizing angles, footwork and lateral movement to score on Max who was still fighting him as if it was the second fight, not employing some of the tools he had used in the second bout.

The thing is, even if Holloway could beat Volkanovski on a given night, what then? You should apply that same logic in this situation and say "ok so now Volkanovski needs a rematch", and then what? I mean, just like with the Figueredo vs Moreno series, it has to come to an end at one point.

I get that it has to be frustrating for Max's fans, but at least it was a clear cut win for Volk who has been a tremendous champion since then. That's sport.

A lot of that of that post was filled with generalizations, but the OP isn't a good look. Carry on.

He'd be waiting a while, Volk gets a immediate rematch if he loses no matter what imo.
Depends if he loses the belt from a UFC hype machine. If he did, they’re keep him the fuck away from it.

Sorry for the generalizations on this deadly serious message board. Wow, what an awful look.

In all seriousness, I accept your concession based on your lack of conviction. I will give you the out.

We accepted a bullshit narrative that Volk got woken up by USADA and had a crap night's sleep in the second fight therefore the robbery was acceptable in hindsight and somehow he was on a totally different level for the third fight because

A) max lost a step
B) Volk got a proper night's sleep
C) Volk is improving at such a rapid pace that 2 competitive prior fights mean notning, he's just on a different level now

I say all of those explanations are exaggerations. Max-Volk 4 is competitive today. Max looked like crap in the trilogy fight - bad night for him. Some of us thought he was going down the Ferguson route after that night but clearly it was uncharacteristic.

Max is still on Volks level but with a resume a million times better while being younger.

Thank you for your time.
I agree with A and C, not sure where you get the B from. Max seems better than the rest but is clearly not as good as Volk. Volk has been criminally underrated on here and everywhere until recently. He's one of the GOAT's and is definitely the GOAT of FW. I am huge Max fan but he's just not as good as Volk.

Edit: Max has lost a 1/2 a step, not a whole step in my opinion.

Reading comp fail? Lol.

Concession? Max has clearly lost two fights to Volk. Threads like these are a bad look for Holloway fans and a lot of us get lumped into together because of it.

"Max is still on Volks level but with a resume a million times better while being younger."

Volk beat Max 3 times and has never lost a fight at FW. Max has 6 losses at FW. I love Max. I was one of very few on here that stood up for Max before the Kattar fight. The narrative on here was that Kattar was the better boxer and Max gets hit too much. I hope you don't have a job hiring people since you believe Max has the better resume. Could you explain why?

No interest in a 4th fight when one fighter is already up 3-0.

Max and Volk 4 looks nothing like their third fight. Real MMA and Holloway fans know this. Sorry buddeh.

You just want to have the popular opinion. One second you will disparage the casuals or general fanbase as long as it is popular to say and the next you get nervous and join the mob if the opinion makes you uncomfortable. I will allow you to have it both ways because it is a bit sad. I will grant it.

Max was already on a double-digit FW streak in the UFC by the time the older Volkanovski made his UFC debut. 3 of his losses at FW in the UFC were at an age before Volk even made his MMA debut to the likes of Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. The other 3 are the Volk fights in question.

Anymore dumb questions?
