If he married her inside the borders of the USA then filed the paperwork for temporary resident alien, waited until that was approved (it would have been approved as long as she had nothing more than a misdemeanor) they could have left the USA for their honeymoon. Incredibly stupid on their behalf knowing she was an overstayer. You don't get married then poof! you are a resident alien. You need approved paperwork. So stupid.
