Leon Edwards is top 5 greatest striker in UFC history

Generally speaking that is the key to all martial combat. Get in, hit your target, and get out before they can retaliate. Even in BJJ and grappling the principle is the same.
BJJ is about hitting and not being hit? That’s a new one, I must say.

Hendo and Vitor arent good strikers?
And also, are you really bringing the corpse of Silva that fought, and almost KO'd Bisping (that fight couldve stopped with that knee) and the hyped MW champ Adesanya to a competitive match?
And still say people dont know what they're watching?

Idk If it's a bad troll job or just a reeeeally bad take.
It's impressive to be wrong about literally everything you wrote.

Be sure to thank your handlers for letting you post on Sherdog.

Honestly, I don't even know if he's current top5 striker let alone all time in the UFC.

Gane
Pereira
Wonderboy
Adesanya
O'Malley

This is my current top5 best strikers in that order, which one would you say with a straight face are worse strikers than Leon?

And btw there are still so many other guys you can make an argument for, like Volk, Strickland, Yair, Holloway, Gaethje,Ilia, Aspinall and so on.
Gaethje illia are better than all of your top 5 strikers

No. Holloway output is brilliant but he's consumed more knuckle sandwiches that the other three combined.
Holloway is fighting far better strikers then Leon Edwards is. Edwards has been rocked badly by old diaz. It's easy to avoid damage when you have fought as little as Edwards and not against the best strikers ever in the sport.

Let’s get a few facts straight. To anyone that understands the fundamental rule of striking you are probably a fan of the skill of Mayweather as well. To the rest of you this will come across confusing in your newbish state. The art of fighting is NOT let’s see who has the most KO’s and that makes him the greatest striker (that’s a perk). The art of striking is not who did the most Matrix like move (although that is icing on the cake and puts asses in seats it is not the cake). The pinnacle of fighting skill is having the ability to hit your opponent without taking significant damage. PERIOD.

Leon does this as good or better than any fighter on the roster that fought at a championship level. Including your favorite fighter. Not a single fighter from Aldo to Silva to JBJ has taken less damage while having a 95% striking based style. So when you trash the man for his style just kindly keep that newb shit to a minimum. You don’t know what the hell you are talking about. Thank you very much (in my Elvis voice)

WAR LEON

Fundamentally disagree.

The entire point of fighting is a finish.

The most common mantra in "decision endings" = NEVER LEAVE IT "UP TO THE JUDGES" ...

"Decision victories" are always up for debate, always leave EVERYONE unsatisfied ...

FINISH victories leave no room for doubt.

We know who the winner is.

Stop with your metrosexual bull ship.

Leon beats legless Usman and brainless Colby and suddenly he's skyrocketed to GOAT status lmao
Every WW title holder since GSP gets called GOAT on here after 1 defence. If they lose, they were never good. Is normal.

Can’t say I didn’t laugh at the thread though. This is massive reach

top-30 all-time sure.

Gaethje illia are better than all of your top 5 strikers

Not the point of my post, but uh, I disagree I guess?

Gaethje got rocked by billions of so-so strikers in his career, also got TKO'd by Poirier and Alvarez. Ilia is really good but he hasn't shown it against anyone at top level yet so I'm holding off on it.

When people make greatest top5 lists they usually value body of work more than anything else, so flash in the pan success isn't really taken into account

Gaethje was green when he got koed by Poirier and by Eddie and when you fight elite strikers always it's normal to get rocked and you are putting Gane in your top 5 strikers 🤣 who gets caught standing tall by fat bums as Tuivasa and Spivac Wonderboy Is joke to lool flashy=good🤣

Is that really relevant?

How many top strikers in their prime did Anderson beat?

He fought guys who punch hard like Hendo and Vitor but no real talented strikers when he was champion. The best strikers he fought was after he lost the belt in Bisping and Adesanya, and he lost to both. Doesnt matter though, he's still one of the best strikers in MMA history.

It's irrelevant. Your skill level isn't determined by how many strikers you've beaten.
I mean, if we're discussing striking skills I think you absolutely have to consider the level of competition that striking is matched up against.
Tons of high school highlight tapes out there from kids that couldn't start D1.

He's obviously very talented but this thread is hilarious.

Ah yes, getting caught twice and not even losing those fight is so much worse than getting tagged a million times throughout your career. Keep reaching

Btw Gaethje was 30 years old and was already fought the best of the best outside of UFC at that point when he got finished by Eddie lol. He went in a slugfest with Palomino ffs where he got hurt many times

Gane is the best striker in the UFC until proven otherwise even once in a fight. He outstruct every single fighter he has ever fought including Ngannou (people said Ngannou was the best striker until that fight)

Who has leon beat that was a known striker? Usman was always a grinder, and same with Colby. Nate Diaz is the best striker he fought (who was a lw most of his career) and Nate turned him into the stank leg and would have gotten finished if Nate Diaz didn't have the iq of a cracked rock.

WAR LEON

Panic wrestled against Covington

Nate knocked him out

95% striking based style is made-up bullshit.

Post fail

Even if we accepted your premise that "the pinnacle of skill" was point fighting, it wouldn't be Leon. The UFC actually do keep track of strikes landed per minute and strikes absorbed, which would be the metric since you don't put any weight on actually doing damage to your opponent.

Leon is barely above water in strikes landed per minute vs strikes absorbed per minute, and there are more than 5 guys right now with better ratios, let alone all time. I also don't recall him ever winning a 10-8 round against anybody, or having shut outs(50-45 or 30-27) since his only 30-27 against a guy who went 0-3 and got cut.

Leon is good at doing a little more than his elderly opponents.

I like Leon, but one loss and he’ll be completely forgotten. Sucks, but it’s how this fucking sport works.
