Where would you put Edwards today and how many wins before he surpasses Usman and Hughes?

Right now, for me, he's in between Lawler and Hendricks.

He's a few wins away at minimum of passing Lawler and Woodley.

Are you taking into consideration how bad hendricks was robbed vs gsp? Id put him ahead of lawler who is overrated af

I'm not taking that into account, I'm going by what's on the records.

Lawler might not have been technically as good as other people on the list, but his reign as champion was solid.

Welterweight champions with most-to-least top ten ranked wins (at Welterweight):

1. Georges St-Pierre (16)
2. Matt Hughes (12)
3. Kamaru Usman (8)
4. Robbie Lawler (7)
5-6. Tyron Woodley (5)
5-6. Johny Hendricks (5)
7. Leon Edwards (3)

So at best, Edwards is only #7 right now for all-time Welterweights; he needs six and ten more wins to surpass Usman and Hughes, respectively.

Let's see here:

GSP

9 Title Defenses
16 Top 10 Wins

Hughes

7 Title Defenses
14 Top 10 Wins

Usman

5 Defenses
8 Top 10 Wins

Woodley

3 Defenses
6 Top 10 Wins

Lawler

2 Defenses
9 Top 10 Wins

Edwards

1 Defense
3 Top 10 Wins

I'd say he's got quite a ways to go

not hating on him, but in the big picture he’s not up there with the greats

one of the most blatant robberies in mma history, on par with machida/shogun 1

I thought both of those fights were blatant robberies when I first watched them. But upon rewatching them I could see a case for GSP and Machida winning those fights. They really weren't robberies even if you think the decisions should have went the other way.

Both gsp and machida were beat up every round of those fights. Hendricks completely took gsp’s fight away from him.

Where is Leon on this chart? How is Leon who is a UFC champion with one defense not on there while Fitch, MacDonald, Shields, Condit & Covington who haven't ever been champion are on there and Serra who lost in his first defense are all on there? Leon has a record of 21-3 is UFC champion and has 2 wins over Kamaru who is #3 on the list.

Well if you rewatched the fights you could argue that GSP & Machida each won 3 close rounds. Just my opinion.

Interesting metric. I dig taking it into account. It had also already dawned on me that Edwards has very few top 10 wins. His trajectory to the belt has been a weird one: he did way more fights than he arguably should have, but he also didn't fight that much top competition until recently.
