According to my homeless Dad, it's the best sleep hes ever gotten. Smoke some fent and then pass out for 17 hours lol.

Nope. My mom’s side of the family is Catholic, but my dad’s side isn’t so we weren’t raised Catholic. If I decide to give up things for discipline reasons or whatever, I do it for that reason or some kind of betterment, not a religious ritual.

Yes, obviously. I meant I do it solely of my own volition and choosing, rather than “oh it’s March again, time for Lent, what am I gonna give up this time” sort of thing where it’s a ritualistic obligation that’s put on me.
And Lent obviously has a religious aspect as well, which my choosing to give something up or change something would not necessarily have.

I married into a gaggle of Filipinos and eat non-meat stuffs with them on Fridays during Lent just to maintain my standing in the tribe.

You must deal with them cooking a lot of smelly fish. Do they hit you up for money?

In hindsight growing up Catholic did help with some self discipline things when I was a little shit.
