Left vs Right, in housing

I actually feel bad for Manson75...

I'm sorry, but are people in this thread trying to imply that the cost of living in these states aren't due to the differences in their respective governments?

pretty much. they are saying it is supply and demand. they are correct

This, and even if the greater point is that perhaps the "conservative" neighborhood is more desirable, I feel it falls flat there too. When I lived in Louisiana full time I had a home of a similar style. The cops were called constantly because.... The houses were (at that time) still within the price range of a particular group of people, oil field workers.

Move along folks, nothing to see here..... this is purely a supply and demand result from a true free market. It should be apparently obvious that people are rushing to the ghetto of LA and away from the country clubs of Texas and Arkansas.

true free market working right here...... move along sheeple.....

Damn sure has absolutely NOTHING to do with regulations, taxes and government involvement over the last decade......

Policy does affect both, though. Building codes and zoning policy constrain supply (by preventing greater demand to lead to taller buildings, for example), while more equitable fiscal policy provides a boost to demand.

The supply issue doesn't have much to do with "left vs. right." If anything, putting the aesthetic desires of rich homeowners over the desires of the poor and middle class to have more abundant, cheaper housing would be right-wing policy. In terms of taxes, it's a big misconception that California is a high-tax state overall. I don't have the data for Arkansas, but typically in the South, you see very low taxes on the rich, very high taxes on the poor, and normal taxes on the middle class, a lot of people qualifying for assistance but stingy programs and poor infrastructure and educational systems, which makes those less desirable areas for the non-rich.

For example:

The bottom 60% of earners pay higher taxes in Texas than California, and people in the 60%-80% range pay about the same. So the effect is that most Californians are paying lower taxes, but they have access to one of the best public university systems in the country, and mediocre overall education--but much better than you see in most of the South.

Have you ever been to LA or Arkansas? I have relatives with a place in Manhattan Beach just for guests and relatives in Arkansas (Fayetteville), and I can tell you, there's no comparison. Culture, weather, natural beauty all go to LA in a landslide.

so why are people much more crammed together in a progressive county, causing people to pay almost half a million dollars for a dilapidated shack? as far as supply, isn't there an overabundance of houses on the market in LA?

Dont feel bad, people like us have something called common sense, unfortunately today its not so common. We know this is a result of government intervention over the last decade. Supply and demad being used is very funny. Nobody is rushing to buy that house. Maybe an ocean front property, or something in a gated community could use supply and demand as a reason but not for the house you showed. There isnt a line of bank offers for that dump.

People like me and you are like Germans with integrity during Hitlers reign, even though they didnt believe in Hitlers plans they were the minotiry and would have been called fools and laughed at by the majority of the country. Sometimes the minority is right and the majority are so very wrong and so far off they cant tell.

Fuck em and feed em fish heads....

Charts like this are easily made up in favor of the authors bias they're trying to push. For instance I could say the bottom %60 of people in Texas pay more taxes than the bottom %60 in California do. But what if I leave out that the majority of the bottom %60 of people in California are on government assistance and pay no taxes while the bottom %60 of people in texas have an middle class income so they pay a lot of taxes.

Technically I wouldnt be wrong if I said that and made a chart showing that. All i did was hold out other information

You could say whatever you want, but the chart I presented has accurate data, while your speculation has no basis in fact. Further, the point is still that fiscal policy in CA is more beneficial to the majority of the population.

In other words, you can aggregate accurate data to make it less meaningful, add an inaccurate statistic and misrepresent the findings to paint a picture that suits your emotional liking.

AWESOME!

Hmm, do you feel the same for Chicago as well?

The TS and then this gem.

When I thought it could not be topped, then this doozy post appeared, replete with a Hitler shout-out.
