Lead Leg Kick without a switch kick

Yea I think you got it although the leap part seems a little strong, more like just using wind up from the hips to load up that front side and then powering up from the balls of the feet and letting the weight go back to the rear hip. I am pretty sure it is a kyokushin technique because my old coach would always have us throw it from an infighting sort of position so you could use the lead hand to occupy the opponents hands to avoid punches and land big kick on the inside of their leg

Yeah, he was posting mainly the aerial Ong Bak stuff before he went underground on the web. I liked his earlier, more savage stuff.

Meh - the guy is still shifting his planted foot. If you're going to commit to a front leg kick, commit to zero telegraph whatsoever.

The lead leg comes straight up in a chamber then snaps into the round kick. Back when I was in the sport, we'd pivot the base leg around to open up the hips and get more power on the kick, but these days where it's gone towards point fighting they often leave out the pivot for faster recovery to defend in case of a missed kick.

You'll notice the instructor doing it both ways in the video, when he's working with his partner and not trying to kill him he often leaves out the pivot or use a minimal one. When he's throwing for impact on the pads he gets his base leg around to really snap the kick through.

This is how I prefer the front leg kick. There's practically no shifting of feet, and it's so fast you can actually land pretty good with it.

ahh well said, "ong bak" hahah. But yeah thats pretty much exactly what he was teaching. Its not surprising that hes no longer online or running a gym, as a muay thai gym is hard enough to make as a business let alone something even lesser/smaller known like muay boran. The only way I see Muay Boran being successful is if its a extra program added to a gym rather than only a gym offers
 
There's people who can throw a MEAN lead roundhouse to the body or to the head with almost 0 lean back and 0 telegraph.

The classic Muay Thai switch kick is a bit too slow and too much of a tell. If you have enough leg dexterity and hip flexibility, you can throw a mean lead roundhouse to the liver.
 
So practicing the lead leg kick without the switch actually improved my switch kick

Gotta rep my old instructor, Lerdsila...this fight was such a mismatch that Joe Rogan even mentioned it lol (headliner pulled out the week of). Prob not a good idea to step in the ring for your pro MT debut against a 3x Raja champ.

i remember when that happened and it buzzing around the internet. I didnt know it was the other guys pro debut though. so dude had a pro record of 0-0-0 vs 3x raja champ. lol whoops. Maybe I am confused but didnt the guy have an MMA background that they thought would help compensate for the lack of experience?

Regarding his kick, he did kick without a switch, but he took a small step forward with his right foot, in order to load the left kick. Which is fine, but I was looking more at throwing the kick with no switch, or step, or nothing.
 
In the cage Marlon Moraes has a mean lead leg roundhouse; got both Jimmie Rivera and Aljamain Sterling with it.
 
Not sure anyone has mentioned Wonderboy yet but his KO of Dan Stittgen was beautiful.

He was 7-4 in MMA at the time, so not exactly Conor going into boxing. I guess he's a coach at Bangkok Boxing in GA, where there's two Thais with stadium experience but I guess that couldn't save him.

Whittaker landed a few beautiful lead round kicks to Romero's head in their second fight.

Glaube Feitosa is one such individual. The Kyokushin/K-1 Legend threw the Brazilian Kick with his lead leg and dropped people with them. He nearly dropped Semmy Schilt with it.
