Laser Eye Surgery/Lasek

Its better if you do crazy stuff where you could get hit in the eye.

Why isn't anyone throwing around how much they paid?
That's the only reason I came in this god forsaken thread.

Last I saw, Lasek was about 2k per eye.

I haven't got mine done but here in Canada its like 500$ an eye i think
 
My YAG surgery doesnt cost anything, it's done on the NHS. My sister had a different procedure done privately which cost
 
I think I will wait till my vision stabilises, I went from only needing glasses to watch TV/drive ... to needing them every second of the day in the past two years, I can barely make out peoples' faces when I walk down the street ...

Wait till that deterioration stabilises then get LASEK.

LASIK is apparently less painful, but I don't want the physical strength of my eye to be comprimised, I don't do sports but you mever know what freak accident could happen and you can never be too careful.
 
The problem with me is that I am sooo squemish. I have to hype myself up before I have an injection, can't sleep the night before I have an injection appointment. I don't know if I have the nerve/stomach to go through with the operation.

Is it possible to do it under a general anaesthetic, or like sedated???

Just thinking about this operation freaks me out.
 
i got PRK bc of wrestling right before i turned 25. best decision i ever made. cost me 4600 total, but i paid 200 bucks a month no interest. i will say that there are mornings when i wake up and it feels like my eyelid is glued to my eye and it's very painful. and i tear up for a while. so i try to keep them as moist as i can.

Even now your eyes are drying up??? Years after the operation??

it's been 2 years. it doesn't happen as often but it does happen occasionally. and i feel like it took my eyes a year to stop being so sensitive to light.
 
That surgery freaks me out big time. I've worn glasses/contacts since I was a child and I'm content to do that until I die.

I had Lasik*eye surgery*last month and I no more need to have coke container thick glasses. I just need 1.00 or 1.25 enhancement and can work for a long time on a machine with minor print. I can see much preferable now over I have ever had the ability to see in all my years. I am really happy now.
 
I got PRK and have had zero problems with it. Hurt like a mofo for the first week, but it's amazing not having to wear glasses anymore.
 
Usually you have to wait until you carry the same prescription for a year - at least it was when I had mine done 11-12 years ago. Initial results were great, you have the procedure done, have crazy sensitivity to light so go home and sleep and when you wake up you can see 20/20.

I did have and still have the halo effect when night driving though - which wasn't a big deal then, but is a pain in the ass now. Also 10+ years later, I'd probably need to get it again as by eye sight is shot again - but I don't really need to see distances anymore. Back in the day I needed it for reading the board in college and the like but now the only hindrance to bad eye sight now is when driving and being unable to read the street signs until you're right up on them, but GPS helps greatly in this regard.

I'd get it for free again, but I wouldn't pay for it.

Are you awake during the surgery or under anaesthetic? Does it hurt afterwards, how long does it take for it not to hurt.

Are you getting LASIK or LASEK (aka epi-LASIK)? How old are you? If you are <40 and have the procedure, when you hit the mid 40's, your near vision may be blurry and will probably require reading glasses.

With LASIK, I wouldn't go so far as saying the surgeon slices into your eye. Now, there is a technique to use a laser to create the flap (intralase or femtosecond technology).

There is topical anesthetic (drops) and most people take a small amount of valium or similar the day of surgery. I haven't had it, but I wouldn't expect the post op period to be miserable. Probably, a scratch eye sensation.

Cataract surgery will serve to evacuate cataracts and give you clearer vision, yet it can rectify your presbyopia moreover. Throughout cataract surgery, the overcast or stained eye lens might be reinstated with a multifocal intraocular lens, which gives you a full run of vision. The surgery will be fine as the patient is anasthetic.
