Las Vegas is dead...

Do 20 somethings even like Vegas anymore? It feels to me like Vegas is a bit of a relic of the past and it may not appeal to a younger generation that much.

I don't think its dying. I was there for the last ufc. It seemed fine to me. Ufc was packed. Watched the blue man group which was full, rented a Lamborghini and the place I rented from had someone else picking up a car when I dropped it off. Ended up driving on the hoover dam which had a lot of people. Caesars buffet seemed pretty crowded on Friday night. Stayed a block off the strip and dennys for breakfast was crowded. It was all alot of fun

I rent cars at the airport. Sometimes I hear people complaining about pricing on a vacation and I think, maybe you should have stayed home and can't really afford this vacation. Applies to some in this thread.

I saw this article the other week. The death of Vegas is greatly exaggerated. The dishonest press is having a good time though ~

WAYNE ROOT: Las Vegas Isn’t “Dying.” But Just like the Rest of America, Democrat-Run Vegas is in Decline, While Republican-Run Vegas is Booming. Here’s Why.

The ignorant, clueless mainstream media has it wrong again. They’re so dumb, they couldn’t spell “CAT” if I spotted them the C and A.

We’ve all seen the nonstop headlines claiming “Las Vegas is in Freefall” “Vegas is Dying” and “Vegas is Finished and Will Never Recover.”

All of which is a gross exaggeration.

First of all, Vegas is plenty busy- just like always. Just a little less busy than last year. Revenues are down single digits from last year- which was one of greatest years in the history of Vegas.

In 2024 Nevada casinos enjoyed the all-time-record largest win total in history- $15.6 billion. The Vegas Strip hit all-time record revenues for the fourth straight year. Almost 42 million tourists visited Vegas in 2024- close to another all-time record.

Does that sound like Vegas is dying, or dead?

If your business is off single digits from the best year in history, and the four consecutive best years in history, is that collapse, or freefall, or reason to panic? Of course not.

As usual, the media is grossly exaggerating, with shocking headlines, meant to sell newspapers and explode TV ratings. What a surprise. It’s like a scripted reality TV show.

But compared to last year (the best year in history) business is down this year, and Vegas casinos are laying off employees. That part is true.

So, what exactly is happening? Why is business down this year? The mainstream media would never understand this, but this is another classic case of Republican success versus Democrat failure.

The Vegas brand is perhaps the most famous and valuable in the world. No one could screw that up, right? Wrong. Democrats poison everything they touch.

Democrats have destroyed every big city in America; they screwed up the border and illegal immigration; they screwed up inflation; they screwed up the national debt; they screwed up our public schools; they even screwed up the military with woke transgender brainwashing.

Yet with Trump in office only a few months, the border is secure; the National Guard is making cities safe again; we have peace in the Middle East; Trump’s tariffs have produced record setting monthly budget surpluses; and the US Marines just announced they’ve hit their recruiting goals for the year 2026 in just two weeks.

It’s that easy for Trump and Republicans to turn things around.

Las Vegas is no different. Not all of Vegas is down. Only the Vegas Strip is down. The off-Strip and suburban casinos and hotels in Vegas are booming. Why? What’s the difference?

The reason why is simple. All the major resorts on the world-famous Vegas Strip are owned and operated by Democrats- mostly Ivy League-educated Democrats from Wall Street, who know nothing about gambling or tourism.

MGM is run by Democrats. Caesars is run by Democrats. Harrahs is run by Democrats. Wynn is run by Democrats (since they ran brilliant Republican billionaire Steve Wynn out of town). Even Venetian sold out to Apollo Global Management based in New York, since the death of brilliant Republican billionaire Sheldon Adelson.

Not only are the Strip casinos run by dumb, clueless Ivy League Democrats, but most of them sold the land under their casino-resorts to Blackstone- Wall Street firm that now charges them obscene annual $100 million to $300 million land lease charges.

Station Casinos is booming- the Republican Fertitta family owns them.

The downtown Golden Nugget is booming- it is owned and operated by Tillman Fertitta- a Trump Republican who is now President Trump’s Ambassador to Italy.

Boyd Casinos are booming. They are run by the Boyd family- who gives mostly to Republican candidates and PACS.

South Point Casino is booming- it is run by the Republican Trump supporter Michael Gaughan.

Have you seen the recent red state vs blue state breakdown? As many as 21 U.S. states plus Washington DC are now either in, or near recession. But Texas and Florida are booming. Most Southern states are doing well.

There you have it. Just like red states vs blue states, the downturn in Vegas breaks down along party lines. .....

Man, that’s concerning if the discourse in America has gotten so bad that hotels and casinos are being partitioned along party lines to say “democrats suck” and “republicans rule” when we’re not even talking about running a government, just party donors apparently. Good grief.

If you have the finances of a degenerate. My favourite restaurant in the US is in Vegas. They actually have knives and forks.
Knives and forks are unusual over there now? I went to some really good steak restaurants over there (favorites were in Santa Monica and Washington) I didn't notice any restaurants without knives and forks?

Mate... have Aussies lost their sarcasm?

Degenerates tend to eat at Maccy Ds or establishments where cutlery isn't needed.
I would have thought being a degenerate would have nothing to do with being poor? There are plenty of very rich people I would place in that category...

Good for you, and them?!
Your favourite restaurant when you visited? Mine is here. Potentially my favourite chef in the US, I had the fountain view table booked for my 50th, lol. Pusscats had very different ideas.

The best food I had was at a place, called... I think it was The Capital Grill in Washington. Was kind of funny, with a bunch of people in suits and formal attire and I was just wearing shorts and t-shirt. I also really liked... from memory, was called BOA? in Santa Monica. I just randomly wandered in there on my first morning in the US, went another three times.

I meant in Vegas, sozzles.
Here. Is the best place I've dined at in the US, not just Vegas. Scott Conant is a whizz.

And Cosmo is my favourite place as well.

If it was there 10 years ago, I would have walked right up past it. I remember those fountains.

This sounds pretty great:

I had that and it was enough for 4 people.
I bought his book and Eamon made the short rib bone marrow Agnolotti from scratch which was on par with his.

When I'm in Vegas I throw all my morals out of the window and my duck and foie gras ravioli was probably the best ravioli I've ever had.

I'm more of a steak person than Italian but I'll happily try most things.

"When I'm in Vegas I throw all my morals out of the window"

I hear that's pretty standard for people in Vegas... also, the only place I've ever been that the in-room menu had options for plastic surgery. Weird place, but fun.

It's what happens to create foie gras. I shelve it. I'm still so salty I had to turn around and drive home for my 50th, but nothing we could do.

My favourite place by far in the US.

Yeah, probably best to not think of that. The only time I have refused to eat something was whale in Bergen... only to later find out that it's from a type that wasn't even remotely endangered. Oh well.

Vegas is stupid, corny, ridiculous and fun. I would definitely go back 😎
