TUF 23 blog (week 1): The start of something special
LANCHANA GREEN 21 APRIL 2016

http://www.fightersonlymag.com/one-fc/24256-tuf-23-the-start-of-something-special

Lanchana Green's weekly TUF 23 blog for Fighters Only will appear every week following the latest episode of The Ultimate Fighter.

Excerpts:

"With three weeks until potentially flying out I focused purely on honing my strength – my striking – whilst also increasing my fitness. As I don't cut any weight to hit 115lb, I knew some of the girls would be bigger coming into the fights. So my plan was be quicker, fitter and, ultimately, to be able to hit them more times than they could hit me."

"On Friday 22nd January I flew back out to Vegas to board The Ultimate Fighter rollercoaster. Seeing the other girls in their sweat suits, running and cutting weight whilst I could keep sharpening my skill-set made me so glad I didn't have to go through what they were."

Round 1
"Okay, so the first round didn't quite go to plan! Takedown defence went completely out the window and I was on the canvas pretty quickly. However, I remained calm and tried to take as little damage as possible without panicking and making mistakes. Ashley spent the full round in top position and sunk a rear naked choke in towards the end of the round. All I could think was how much I didn't want to get back on that plane and go home. I fought through gritted teeth on minimal oxygen until the buzzer went."

Round 2
"I knew I was badly down on the scorecards, and even if I'd had had the better in this round it would have gone to a third, so I switched on, and went for the finish. I simply refused to get taken down and tried to land some strikes. I managed to land a knee to Ashley's mid section, which stopped her for a second. I knew I had to capitalise, so I started smashing in as many knees as I could! She was tough, the ref was in my peripheral but he wasn't stopping the fight. then I heard Wil' shouting to attack the head and I kept punching until the referee finally called an end to the bout."

I was so impressed with Lanchana last night .. what a heart on this girl. I had no idea who she was, but somehow I found myself rooting for her to make it out of the 1st round which didn't look like it would happen when Cummins got that choke slapped on. Lanchana came back like a beast in the 2nd, and I am a fan!

Rooting for her and Jamie to go far in the competition, and hope they both make it to the finale. Still can't believe that Joanna didn't pick her first, I would have ..

Actually, I'm glad she is on Gadelha's team. It will help her with her grappling defense. If that choke was on any longer she could have been tapped out. Didn't she fight Nicolini at some point?

A Muay Thai fighter and hapa. Must root for her.

I hope she stops mentioning her boyfriend every five minutes, don't kill the male viewers' fantasy life.

Probably my favorite girl on the show. She's cute and has tons of heart. I'm a fan.

This was actually my 2nd thought this afternoon, so I agree with you.

I predicted she'd lose prior to the fight starting, then as there were about thirty seconds left, I tell the people i'm watching with "If she survives, she'll finish her in the next round". She survives...brutal TKO in the second... True story, I predict deez tings :p

Though if you've ever watched TUF before & MMA for a while, that isn't exactly the hardest thing to predict.

That fight was awesome. What made it even more awesome was my drunk cousin yelling "fuck the police" every time she landed a knee.

why the hell all 'bloggers' so far (lanchana, amanda cooper and eric spicely) are from team claudio? I want more team Joanna content!

am i missing something?

I think bloggers are the ones who lost (otherwise they wouldn't have time to write all this down). I remember Jenkins blogging on TUF 22 and it turned out he lost before the finals. So...

Our boxing coach didn’t speak an ounce of English and was coaching full practices in Portuguese. I remember at one point Andrew and I looked at each other and we both just knew that we were thinking: 'man what the hell is going on.'

this is gold
