I can't believe how badly this place is being run

The leaders just do not know how to handle money. The waste of tax dollars is approaching comedic levels

and it has been this way for a very long time

They tax the shit out of everything so how can they be this broke

What would you cut to balance the budget?

LAUSD has lost 40% of its student base but hasn't cut down on the workforce or shut down schools- and kept minority funding initiatives.

Well - there's a place for the axe to swing first

60%+ of the department of cultural affairs goes to covering salaries??

Yup, definitely cut education first, shut down schools, fire teachers, gut those lunch programs, let the air outta the school bus tires and repo all their school supplies while we're at it!

Yeah, you're the poster child for education initiatives. But to your point - LAUSD funding has gone up 229% per student in the last 10 years; their overall budget went up 63% - their enrollment rate when down....so more money on small classes ....and they still rate below the state average in English, Math and Science. Nearly 50k spent per student per year....and the proficiency levels are English 43%; Math 32.8% and Science 24%

Are LA kids just dumb?

Yea, people that went through horrible times as a child usually do understand the value of simple things like actually having a chance at a quality education and somewhat stable upbringing much better than people that sat around throwing fits cause their mom brought the wrong flavor juice box upstairs with their after school snacks

They are getting significantly more funding per child than the national average? For two decades? How much more of a chance do they need? James Escalnte could "reeeech these kidzz" with just the encyclopedia Britannica missing the N, L and P sections.

You can't get scores to be at state average at 50k a kid???

I wonder how much of that money is actually being spent on teaching and reaching these children and how much is being lost to bureaucratic waste, corruption, cronyism and all the other evils that come along with massive government spending projects

Theres obviously huge problems with the LA school system but how bout spending some of that astronomical budget on actual problem solvers that can come in and root out the massive waste and dead weight and reform the system into a much more efficient and effective program that generates positive results which would result in a better future for so many thousands of precious children and a huge beneficial R.O.I. on all those millions of tax dollars instead of just doing massive chops to the budget which will only make the problems worse without solving anything cause that money will then just be redirected into other hugely wasteful government spending

Yes, I know Im just dreaming but ole Pete believes the children are the future, just like Whitney did

11% goes to admin. 47% goes to instruction; 13% goes to extra support, and the rest goes to food and operation.

They literally increased their equity program from 25 million to 280 million in just 6 years.

You can be a wide eye optimist all you want; but damn - LA kids, woof.

I am an LA kid educated by the public school system and I turned out fine.

Just because you spend it, and spend it on the right things, doesn’t mean you spend it well. It can be both.

Well, they have a legit communist as a mayor. What you expect

No fcukin way she's a commie! Shocked I tell you!

Remember when LA was burning to the ground and the weaklings on the left tried to make the use of the english language term "incompetent" seem as if it was a racist slur?

Sounds like a bunch of bullsh!t, on par for low life commies. It all adds up in the end.

- Forgot fire defense budget. No need of that!
