Kowloon Walled City

Was just reading up on this place in China that was called Kowloon walled city and it once the most desnses? places on earth.

it was a walled city that governed itself or was ran by the gangs reallys. No regulations by goverment of any kind. No need for permits to be a Dr or Dentist or Hooker or anything. Just Drop, Shut'em Down and Open Up Shop.

The whole place was built by normal folk and not city planner or engieers or nothing and folks on the bottom never even saw sunlight.

They have torn it down and turned it into a park now.

i am looking at some doc on youtube now and will post any i think are cool but most are depressing as hell and talk about how rough life was for them folks. Drug dens at night were school is the morn amd people eating cat's eye and shit. No place to bury the dead, so most people put them in the bathrooms and left them there for yrs.

there are plenty of unlicensed doctors & dentists here in Flushing NY.

a buddy of mine once cracked his molar. so one night we were out & he asks us to accompany him in visiting a family friend who is a dentist so he can have a look. it turned out the guy had a 'ghetto dentist office', chair & all in his basement. so my buddy ended up getting a crown, & the whole time the dude was smoking cigarettes haha.

after they were done, the ghetto dentist offered him a cigarette, telling him it's totally fine, after having all that work done.

It's crazy how that was the most dense place ever. Imagine how dense parts of China are, and that place shits on it. Shit imagine New York since most people probably haven't been to China. Too much.

My wife is from Hong Kong. She was too young to remember much about the place, but has been there before with her parents. There are still certain parts of Hong Kong that vaguely resemble the area, but nothing even remotely close to that type of density.

After reading about some Korean Mall that collapsed on itself from shoddy engineering killing thousands of people, I'm skeptical as to how this whole place didn't implode on itself and crush all the inhabitants. Seeing as how you mentioned there was no architects or engineers that helped build it.

The wiki article in the OP states that the majority of people living there were regular folks who just tried to live their lives. The crime that went on was largely quelled by the 70s, and whole thing was torn down by 1989.
