Kobe Bryant has been quietly removed from the G.O.A.T discussion?

Listening to sports talk today and they were asking the question why is the G.OA.T now only debated between either LeBron or Jordan.

Here's my take. Lebron, and Michael are in the company of the Pele, Michael Jackson, Muhammad Ali, Elvis, Tiger Woods, Beatles Tier. and that's transcendent internationally recognized cultural ICON status.

Kobe Bryant has never moved the needle like these two.

Kobe is an AMERICAN sports Icon no doubt but more along the Lines of a Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, John Elway, type of significance.

Kobe really shouldnt have a statue imo

..in the end out of all the great lakers he'll be behind Magic, Kareem, and Lebron in significance

Kobe was only ever in the GOAT discussion during his heyday, when he was arguably the player in the league. The media is always going to bill the current top guy as "is he better than MJ?".

thoughts are reality disagrees with you as usual.

kareem is a nobody, he's the like the most boring dude in nba history

and nba is full of stale dudes

Tim Duncan was arguably "boring" so to was Stockton and Malone, Nash, Bird, Grant Hill. there's been a slew of great players that lack sizzle. but great nonetheless

The GOAT must transcend basketball. Kobe never did that TBH Shaquille is more of an ICON than Kobe.

to be considered transcendent you need at least two movies, massive shoe deal/campaign/ recognized the world over/ and maybe dabble in rap. also in my book you need atleast 3 rings

He's far better than both. They simply aren't in the discussion with him.

OP is accurate. Kobe was never in the GOAT discussion.

He is at the top of the list in the "Honorable Mention" category when having the GOAT discussion though.

no I completely agree Kobe is Top ten all time NBA...not in my top five but def top ten. When you played mamba there was NEVER a fear factor

with Jordan you know he was trying to cut your heart out and eat it

bad boy pistons literally had teams nervous

showtime lakers you knew you were going to lose embarrassingly

same with Contemporary GSW

Kobe was just a rich kid that could ball that tried to come off "gangsta"

mad respect for his basketball skill.... just not the Goat

Kobe was never seriously in the GOAT discussion. His star was massively overhyped because ESPN, sports radio, and the rest of the talking head media are really just a cog in the wheel of the sports money machine; a machine that LA has undue influence over, and who the media are keen to bolster since there is so much more potential for profit in that market created by a false enthusiasm.

Anybody who approached his career rationally while it was happening knew this was coming. It's appropriate. He might be the most individually skilled player to ever played the game, but he's also the most overrated superstar of all time, hands down.

Kobe pulled less votes than Yao did from China.

I'll care what China has to say about ping-pong. They couldn't tell an anus from a horizontal vagina when it comes to basketball.

Shaq shined brighter, too.

Kobe isn't top 10. Maybe top 15 and even that is debatable.

He is an asshole and a lot of people think a competitive asshole is better than someone who is even keeled and delivers. There are a lot of players that weren't prima donnas that were better.

Shaq and Kobe all day everyday baby.

No doubt together they were OUTSTANDING on the court.

But Kobe wanted off the court charisma and sizzle it can't be learned or forced you either have likeability and charisma or you don't

And he broke the cardinal rule of man law by outing shaq just because you get caught up don't snitch on another dude

On a side note out of Jordan LeBron and Shaqw who would you want to kick it with?

LeBron has a genuine likability. Jordan maybe not so much but he never wanted to be liked or popular or overly charsomatic

He was a competitor that verged on the edge of fixation when it came to wanting to tear your heart and soul out
