[disclaimer: I apologize if this is in the wrong spot. I figured this would perhaps be where my discussion should go but if it's not then move it accordingly I guess]

I was talking to one of my friends today and we were discussing whether or not someone typically is more vulnerable to a KO due to a strike while they are drunk VS while they are sober.

I personally think that you are more vulnerable while drunk. I guess I am not fully sure as to why.. Maybe because a lot of times when people are fighting while drunk they seem to get KTFO more than when people fight sober...

If anyone has any opinions on it that would be cool.. If anyone has any medical sources that explain this that would be way more cool.

when people get drunk they usually dont have their hands up defending themselves properly cuz well... their drunk. thus more KTFO.

Regardless of the chemistry and science of the whole thing, a drunk fighter has poor reflexes and sloppy technique compared to the same fighter sober. He'll get knocked out more because he'll get hit in the face more.

KOs while drunk are a lot more dangerous than while sober. The reason being that the dehydrated brain loses its spongelike properties and is therefore more liable to bleeds.

That's a really good point. I'm sure the chance of a brain aneurysm is a lot higher for someone who is intoxicated.

that could explain the amount of death with Fri/Sat streetfights

All of the above said is true, but the MAIN reason why is the same reason why drunk drivers nearly never die, but always kill someone sober. Your body becomes alot more jelly-like and less responsive when drunk, so when your head gets rocked, your neck muscles are very loose, so it rattles, your brain rattles, hence the KO. You're already drunk anyway- it's easy to lose control and lose balance too.

In another instance, being drunk saves you. In automobiles, the drunken person rarely gets injured because their body doesn't stiffen up in the accident. It just bounces around, so yes, they get KO'ed, but rarely have any serious injury. What sucks though is they have to now live with taking someone else's life. So, even though you're more susceptible to KOs, you're less susceptible to injury from contact.

And less susceptible to common sense, too.

Driving drunk doesnt always save your life, but it does reduce impact damage etc. This guy stayin in the same buildin as my sister used 2 climb the outside drain pipe to get food outa her apartment, and he fell something like 3 stories and broke his ribs . Being drunk probably saved his life

er, back on point, what tribe9 said is probably the reason drunken kayos r easier.

I've heard the expression 'dying on your feet' and always thought it pertained to drunken street fighting/boxing.

Even if you don't get knocked out while drunk, you may lose and get the shit beat out of yourself just because you get sloppy and overly confident.

Plus, drunkeness will make you more likely to fight someone that is tougher than you are :)

i blame genetics and a strange upbringin for that , leave my booze alone!

altho i have never been knocked out while sober. i find that i can take a lot more of a beating while im drunk, i get knocked down alot more but not really out. maby my friends just arnt hitting me hard enouhg.

I do agree that KO drunk hypothetically happens more often. But I've been a couple fights and seen a few fights, where the drunk person wins vs a sober person. It all comes down to whether the person you are FIGHTING is skilled. If they are just someone who freaks out and throws their fist, and you're a drunk person trained in MMA. I could see the drunk person being more aggressive and just bashing the crap out of some ppl. But thats not always the case. It really is situational when it comes down to reality.

I doubt you're friends actually hit you as hard as they could. If they clocked you in the face, it don't matter if your sober or drunk, you will get KTFO if its a solid hit and enough times lol. But fighting drunk with friends is hella fun, I can't disagree.

between the two I can personally say its much much easier to drop a drunk guy but they seem to get back up a time or two whereas most sober folks just lay there.

Drunks more vulnerable to get KTFO'ed because they keep their damn mouthes open
