There are some fighters who are very good, but don't get much hype/interest in terms of potential matchups due to not having a style that is regarded as exciting by fans. Some good examples might be Stipe who being perceived as a 'basic' boxer/wrestler never got much hype as a contender, Tate who is champion yet plays third/fourth fiddle to Holly/Ronda/Cyborg if she counts for purposes of dream matchups, Woodley who is often thought of as a crappy challenger compared to Wonderboy/Maia/Condit, Khabib who gets complaints from people who don't like grappling, Esparza who is viewed as terrible despite being former champion and only losing to elite SWs, etc. GSP was obviously the king of this when he was active.

Who in your opinion is the current KING/QUEEN of non-aesthetic style ie. has the greatest contrast between fan-friendliness of style and ability?

Khabib or Maia.

No way, if you have some understanding of the subtle details in his technique he is incredible to watch. Captivating.
I like his style, he's fun to watch. But most people hate it, think he's a backpack, and ugly to watch. He definitely has a grinding, suffocating style.

Khabib now some would say Maia. Previously shields and Fitch

Elkins!! and Barberena too.

But considering ability, Shields.

Jardine had a style that was totally lacking in aesthetic quality. It was fun watching him fight though just to see if the opponent could solve the awkward puzzle.
