So everyone's just biting their nails hoping it doesn't go supernova. But it just blew and it'll blow again soon.

How many people on the island? Is there an evac plan that's actually workable, or are we looking at another Pompeii-like situation?

It's a pretty small portion of the island..

Not near any large populated areas as of yet..

Is there a reason why they can't just get on boats and leave?

I haven't been following the situation at all. Can somebody provide cliffs on what's been happening with this thing?

I honestly don't know, and that's why I asked. There are some HI folk who post here. It just seems incredibly sketchy, at this point, to sit around hoping nothing bad's going to happen...

You think the whole island is gonna blow up?

We've got some air quality issues right now. Other than that, the subdivisions getting wiped out are in known lava zones. While unfortunate, it's not totally unexpected. Most of us here are just going about our lives because we aren't directly affected.

Thanks. I don't know much about the situation - just reading pieces in the paper here and there. Today's report about some miles-high eruption just got me wondering about the worst case scenario. But you're over on the Kona side, right, and really aren't worried bout anything? That's good to hear.

Most comments around here regarding the news coverage is that it's making things seem worse than they are. Sure, crazy stuff could happen. But it would have to get really fuckin' crazy for this to become an island-wide disaster.

I'm on Kona side but well up North.

So you're saying people live on a small, active volcano in the middle of the ocean? Interdasting.
