In the original Kickboxer, Tong Po beat Van Damme under unified rules and Pride rules. Clean KO!

I'm holding out hope that this turns out somewhat decent.

I am prepared to personally guarantee the low quality of this film.

Only if you judge it by regular movie standards. But you have to judge it by straight-to-video B-movie standards. And by those, I think it has a chance of turning out alright.

Judging from that lil trailer, GSP plays a small role, as the first teacher/gym that turns Kurt down, after Eric get Fucked-up. Gina playes mylee or the working girl that Eric shags a the start lol

Jean-Claude Van Damme Signs on for KICKBOXER: RETALIATION

Jean-Claude Van Damme is joining the cast of Kickboxer: Retaliation, a sequel to the upcoming Kickboxer: Vengeance, and the second film in a proposed Kickboxer trilogy designed to reboot the original Kickboxer, in which Van Damme starred in 1989.

The original Kickboxer — the martial arts film in which Van Damme played Kurt Sloane, a kickboxer out to avenge the death of his brother — spawned four sequels in the ‘90s. In the upcoming reboot, Kickboxer: Vengeance, directed by John Stockwell and scheduled for release in September, Alain Moussi takes over the role of Sloane and Van Damme appears as Master Durand.

Van Damme will reprise that role in Kickboxer: Retaliation for writer/director Dimitri Logothetis. The actor signed his contract live on his official Facebook page on July 4. The pic is aiming for a 2017 release.

Am i getting this right? The vengeance is not out, yet they are already booking a sequel?

Are they expecting success that big?

Not booking, they're already filming the sequel, I think.

.

But once again, you have to remember that this is not a Hollywood blockbuster. This movie will make the bulk of it's money on VOD and video rentals. And it was dirt cheap to make (US$ 17 million apparently). The return on investment is probably going to be quite nice.

Look at The Asylum, those guys consistently turn out a profit by making crap and this movie looks like it will be a little more high end than what they produce.

Good point. I always forget about the VOD and rentals.

Still, a bit prematured IMO to film the sequel...

Which in this case will make the bulk if not all of the income this movie will produce.

The producers probably had the funding lined up for another movie that they were going to make no matter what, and instead of going through the trouble of developing a new story from scratch they decided to make a sequel.

thats kinda cool they are keeping his "Kurt" role. much better than trying to build a new character imo

Full Trailer for KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE Finally Released

Jean-Claude Van Damme is stepping back into the ring. But like his Expendables rival Sylvester Stallone and Creed, it’s as a mentor. The action star appears in the new Kickboxer: Vengeance trailer, a reboot of the 1989 film Kickboxer — but there’s a new Kurt Sloane, Van Damme’s character in the first one.

Akin to the original, Kurt (Alain Moussi) and his brother Eric (Darren Shahlavi) are martial arts pros in the U.S. and seek a larger challenge overseas in Thailand. A dramatic showdown between Eric and Tong Po (Dave Bautista) results in Eric’s death, setting Kurt on a vengeful path. He knocks on the door of Master Durand (Van Damme) to refine his fighting ability and claim his revenge.

Bautista, Gina Carano, Georges St-Pierre, Cain Velasquez, and Fabrício Werdum are among the professional real-life MMA fighters who appear in the John Stockwell (Blue Crush) film. Kickboxer: Vengeance is out Sept. 2 in theaters and on VOD.

Note: This will be merged with the official thread after a few days.

van damme looks fried out of his gourd, gina looks swoll as a mutherfucker, and batista is kinda goofy here.

will watch.

Oy vey...

Fight and training stuff looks all right. Carano still sounds like she needs dubbing and everything that isn't fighting or training looks like a cheap Kellan Lutz movie.

Had the impulse to laugh when I saw GSP at the end.

Still, looks a little better than the usual tripe we would expect to see UFC guys like Cain Velasquez in. At least I didn't see Echevarria anywhere.
