Khamzat vs Usman a three rounder?

Because Usman has had ten straight 5 round fights.

Why would that mean he'd just keep on fighting 5 rounders though?

Because it ia a huge co-main, title shot on the line.

Non-title co-mains are very rarely 5 rounds. Like how many times has that occured?

Because it has not been discussed, yet the match up itself has been discussed so much.

That's not really a reason for it being a 5 rounder. Seems more to be a reason for it being business as usual, which means a 3 rounder.

Because I assumed it was 5 for so long.

It's okay. We all make mistakes, bud.

yes, I understand all of that, I had barely thought about it. I was not expecting so much attention to be on my bland assumption. But thank you anyway Iroh

It's what tends to happen when you make a thread on a personal take (assumption in this case).

Anyway, no biggie. I get where you are coming from. I wondered if it might be a 5 rounder for a sec too. You never really know for sure these days.

Also, what can tend to happen is a cunty first reply (Edit: second reply) derails a thread. People follow suit.

But also, I could have worded it better.

Anyways, still seems odd (in other threads) not to have seen one person comment on how a three rounder will effect Usman's style - and that maybe, seeing as he wasn't in camp, it's a damn good thing. Although I have seen it noted that he likes to keep an epic pace for five rounds, that Khamzat might not be able to match. I wonder if they too were assuming that it is a five round fight?

Yeah, the fighters are high enough level, and the event is sufficiently high-profile that it should be 5 rounds

It being 3 rounds favors Khamzat with his more explosive style rather than Usman who is known for 5-round performance

He's seen that Chimaev can go three hard rounds at 170 after a weight cut against Burns. I highly doubt that Usman if he wants to win does anything other than aggressively try to finish Chimaev in the first round. He looked lethargic and weak in the last round against Edwards in their third match. Knowing he was down on the scorecards he showed no urgency to try to win with a finish at all. In the second Edwards match his coasting at the end caused the ref to stand them up off the cage allowing for the knockout.

If he wants to win he needs to win early period. I honestly don't see him being able to survive even three rounds at Chimaev's usual pace and get a decision. If he plays defensively like he did against Leon then he will just 'survive' into a decision loss. Maybe he will turn into the Frozen One like Woodley did in his last few fights. A guy who was once smashing people becoming a totally passive and afraid fighter who ended his career basically losing 16 straight rounds across four fights including being finished rapidly in the last one.

I'm shocked that the odds are so close on this one.
