Let's revisit this fight.. so just rewatched the highlights and once again was amazed at Usman's ridiculous cardiovascular endurance.

This fight was also fought at a blistering pace with both fighters landing solid shots.. yet look at Usman in the 3rd round.. the motherfucker isn't even breathing hard it's insane. Technique still on point, defense still sharp, just kept getting stronger as the fight went on

Great fight! I definitely disagree with you on some points though, although Kamaru performed well offensively, I wouldn't say he looked super sharp technique wise. His jab is on point. However his movement and especially his defensive technique looks pretty bad IMO for a champion.

FAIL MEGATHREAD

where are the damn gifs and stats? Is it somewhere in this 68 page thread?

The OP should have this shit if you're going to merge every related thread

Well, considering RDA has 44 total professional fights, having "10 submission wins" isn't really that big a deal. By contrast, Burns only has 25 professional fights, but has 8 submissions.

In case your math is bad, that means, of 44 professional fights, RDA has submitted 23% of his opponents. By contrast, Burns, in 25 professional fights, has submitted 32% of his opponents.

Burns is therefore the better submission fire.

Regarding Knockouts, RDA escorted 5 knockouts in 45 professional fights (11%); meanwhile, Burns has scored 6 knockouts in 25 professional fights (24%). That's more than twice as many KO's, percentage-wise, as RDA

Oh, and Kevin Lee and Neil Magny are peripherals.

If you really evaluate the two fighters, Gilbert Burns is twice as dangerous as RDA.

I'm all for using data. However, you must also consider the quality of competition. RDA has fought a ton of very good LWs and WWs in or near their primes:
  • Khabib
  • Ferguson
  • Usman
  • Colby
  • Leon Edwards
  • Magny
  • Nate Diaz
  • Pettis
  • Bendo
  • Eddie Alvarez
  • Cerrone (twice)
  • Tibau
  • Guida
  • Tyson Griffin
  • Jeremy Stephenson
Burns' resume isn't nearly as impressive, even with Usman and and Khamzat. He fought very old versions of Maia, Woodley and Wonderboy...and a few decent LWs. So comparing stats is mostly an apples and oranges exercise. Most likely you're still correct about Burns being more dangerous as a KO and submission artist, but you have to consider their respective competition.

Dan hooker big brothered snoozewoman

he's a 1 round fighter that goes balls to the wall to finish right away. when that dont happen he turns into just another fighter that doesn't know what to do.

Litteraly abandon his belt the moment one was about to challenge him

Honestly Oliveira doesn't count in terms of BJJ creds, where he isn't world class. But Khabib would've been a massive favorite over the guy who got smeshed by Paul Felder (and by Jeremy Stephens though he survived that one).

Usman’s a top 2 WW of all-time, it’s unlikely Khamzat reaches his ceiling.

However, Usman fought Burns in his 18th fight after winning a title and featuring in 2 main events against Colby and Masvidal.

The difference in experience was a little different.

After Khamzat finishes Colby, who is an easier stylistic matchup than Burns, this shit is gonna be funny

Usman had of experience and knew all of Burns weaknesses, plus Burns fought way too emotionally against Usman. That fight is a bad indicator to use for a potential matchup between Khamzat/Usman

Do you have any experience with wrestling, like at all? Have you every watched a high level wrestling competition? If you think stopping takedowns equates to "getting badly outwrestled" then I don't know what to tell you. If we had a match and I took 11 shots but only took you down once but controlled you on the ground, guess who wins the match?

Considering the takedowns were the extent of the wrestling in that fight, then my statement stands...he got outwrestled. There was no mat wrestling or time spent on the ground. Every time Colby attempted to wrestle, Usman shut him down.

He established zero control on Usman which is why he wasn't credited with any takedowns. I don't know how you can give Colby the edge in wrestling based on this.

You guys are not even honest and making excuses. First talking about 'muh title defenses' by ignoring how UFC robbed Khabib's title shot in 2016 and treated him completely different than other title contenders, and then ignoring how some fighters gets their title defenses by being lucky, or by controversial decisions etc.

You think Silva being unlucky and breaking his leg and Weidman being lucky in that fight counts as a 'muh title defense' for Weidman? <45>

Even when Weidman was lucky twice in Silva fights, he wasn't even P4P No.2 in the rankings. Even being lucky against Silva didn't help Weidman to reach P4P No.2 status, let alone No.1.
Ah yes UFC robbed the pull out merchant lol. Two knee pull outs, a rib pull out, near death cutting weight and traveling home when he knew there would be restrictions. UFC fault

Not breathing heavy after 3 rounds of a championship fight is bs and suspect.

I'm by no means a judge or going to pretend like I know how to score a fight like some people do. But I just feel Gilbert won the fight.
