This would be a fascinating match up. I wonder if Khamzat will be willing to take him down or instead stand and bang with him.

Thoughts?

How is that a competitive fight? Maia got KOed by Burns the fight before Burns faced Chimaev, which Chimaev won by (barely) outstriking Burns.

Maia can't takedown Chimaev nor backpack him and gets busted up in the striking departement, probably gets finished.

I don't remember Maia landing any takedowns on either Woodley, Covington or Askren. He landed one on Usman but then (controversially if I recall correctly) got standed up by the ref. I believe it was a stalled position though where neither could advance.

When he fought Burns that was not a prime Demian Maia.

Dude was 42 when they fought.

Believe it or not this fight was being talking about. I believe Khamzat's 4th fight right after he beat Meerschart this was a fight Khamzat targeted. Would have been an amazing statement of a win. Unfortunately COVID happened.

If Hazmat was to stand and avoid the grappling like most wrestlers who defeated Maia did, he would beat him easily, but if he chooses to engage on the ground, I think Maia would be too crafty for him to deal with.

Right but the point is he landed one takedown against all the elite wrestlers he faced (I forgot to mention Covington by the way) and that was against Usman who Chimaev wrestlefucked in R1 and even got him down in the other rounds with a broken wrist. Maia is never going to get close to his back or landing a takedown.

Maia isn't great against a good wrestler he can't get position on. Also Maia was pretty small for a middleweight. I'd probably take Khamzat on this one, but I doubt he could finish Maia.

That was not prime Maia, though, and was a shitty call out from khamzat's part.

Anyways, guys, Khamzat would just out box Maia. I say that as probably the biggest maia fan on here. Khamzat probably wouldn't grapple offensively at all, and if he did, it would be towards the end of rounds like what weidman did, to avoid any chance of getting swept and giving up a dominant position.

Shitdog MMAth at its finest. Losing at the age of 43 = anybody who barely beat the person who beat your rotting corpse could beat you in your prime.

I would also pick Khamzat in this fight, but I wouldn't start off by relying on completely retarded reasoning to arrive at that conclusion.

damien mai was never that good really.

Remember they tried to do this fight. Khamzat was suppose to be fight maia a month after someone else but maia pulled out and ducked him.

I am impressed with Khamzat’s ability to control people and get them on the ground. His finishing game skills from there lack diversity. He needs a lot more BJJ training. There were a few submissions he never ever saw the opportunity presenting itself to him. Nor did he take them.

He would stand with Maia, be an easy fight. Essentially like fighting Burns with no stand up.

Lol Maia... cmon man, pick someone who would pose a challenge
