His striking is horrible. Conor's timing and accuracy means trouble for Khabib.

If I were to guess the UFC wants these guys to elimate each other so there's only one contender so he can do a superfight after he fights them or Nate-Diaz 3.
Also I think that you couldn't make this fight if Tony is still in the picture. I think the negotiations are still on going so Conor couldn't fight Tony in April. Also there's a risk if Conor fights Tony and loses then the Khabib fight in Russia is out of the picture.
It's all stratedgy on Conor and UFC's part to make the biggest fight possible and the biggest fight is Conor vs Khabib in Russia in September. This is what they are preparing and hoping for.

Khabib wouldn't lunge in against Conor. He would keep both his hands to the side of his jaw and walk him down and then swarm.
Khabib only lunges in like that when he knows there's no threat. Khabib was very wary of both MJ and Barboza, so I don't expect anything less.

Lot's of casuals in here talking about Conor like he's ever been willing to fight and get mauled by the upper echelons of the LW shark tank. Conor struggles against Nate, no reasonable fan of MMA would believe Conor would stand a chance against either Tony or Khabib, or RDA or Cerrone. This circus has been out of hand for a while now

The threat of khabib's grappling is enough to make his striking seem better, opponents are afraid of him getting taken down or he uses his striking to set up takedowns. I wouldn't worry about khabibs standup against anyone until someone proves they can stop his takedowns.
