Khabib is an amazing talent, but when I look at his resume, I cannot understand how people call him the GOAT @ LW. Khahbib has only had to face 1 fighter that had either been a Champion(when they fought), or at the very least fought in a Championship fight. His record might soon look different, now that he has to face Top-5 contenders for the rest of his career.

Who else in MMA is 27-0? Nobody.

It's the most perfect record in MMA.

It's almost impossible to go that many fights without a single blip on the radar. Even against cans much less destroying P4P #2's like McGregor. And the Conor fight was the first ROUND he lost on the scorecards in his entire career and even that was highly debatable.

RDA, Conor, Barboza, MJ, and Iaquinta are dangerous as fuck. He completely dominated all of them.

People said the same shit about Fedor smashing japanese cans but the reality is, it's an incredible feat to be flawless in this sport as there are so many ways to lose.

Sherdog standards have steadily been higher and higher it's amusing.

I'm not talking the GOAT talk, but the idea that he has "one" name worth mentioning?....C'MON! That's garbage analysis.

Kind of a strange distinction you make to deliberately exclude rda. Khabib dominated RDA smack dab in the middle of his prime win streak. Came back after the Khabib loss, fought the same and continued to win his way to a dominant win over the champ.

He's fought nobody really in the division, I love Conor and can be classed as a nut hugger but he's by far the best fighter he's ever fought and the guys only had two fights at lightweight and came off a two year lay off!

Even if you exclude Tony Fergusons several losses, Khabib still has better wins than him.

I dont really think it matters that much. Hes never been defeated and has some names on his resume, including a dominant victory over the guy with two world titles that many try to tout as the best thing since sliced bread. With his skill it's very possible he can keep defending it against the other excellent fighters in his weight class. Potential for an incredible legacy is upon us. That should be excitement enough that we dont really need threads like this.

Esp at hw where so many have one hit ko power

I dont see that many people call him goat but he is on his way. His record is impressive, hell you think it wouldnt be impressive if at the end he was like 30-3? Khabib is close though as he needs 2 more to tie and 3 to break the current record, also given the LW division is better than ever. People who talk about cans all the time just dont have a understanding of the things they are watching.

i think he retires at 30-0, so 3 more fights. tony, maybe conor again, poirer, gsp etc.

if he beats those guys and retires 30-0 with the 4 title defenses hes up there in goat talks

He fights two cans a year sometimes only one so it can't be that hard to stay undefeated.

:D

In the last 5 years, Khabib's opponents are 43-30

Conor McGregor
8-2 in the last 5 years. His best win. But Connor is a striker and hadn't fought in 2 years.

Al Iaquinta
7-2 in the last 5 years. But his best win was against a 22 year old Kevin Lee(in his UFC debut).

Edson Barboza
7-5 in the last 5 years.

Michael Johnson

6-5 in the last 5 years.

Darrell Horcher

2-3 in the last 5 years. He has only won 1 fight since he fought Khabib.

Rafael dos Anjos

8-5 in the last 5 years. This is a great win. He is an incredible fighter.

Pat Healy

5-8 in the last 5 years. He lost his next 3 fights after he fought Khabib and was cut from the UFC.

This post is actually quite amazing.
Khabibs record is padded as the resume of a boxing title contender.

The way Khabib has dominated everybody in front of him is pretty amazing, and i do believe he is the best lightweight out there. but he should fight some more top dogs to cement his legacy.

If he retires now he's definitely not the LW GOAT, the least he can do is break Penn's record with 4 title defenses

Exclude RDA? How? When they fought, RDA had not yet been a Champion, or fought in a Title fight.

Comparing him to Conor...

Khabib - Was the LW Champion when they fought.
Eddie Alvarez - Was the LW Champion they fought.
Nate Diaz - He had already fought BENDO for the LW Title.
Jose Aldo - Was the FW Champion
Chad Mendes - Interim FW Title Fight. And Chad had already fought Aldo for the FW Title.

It is not only who you fight, but when you fight them. It makes a big difference! Before he fought Conor, the biggest fight Khabib had ever been in, was against Al Iaquinta(a guy who wasn't even ranked in the top 10).

I have said the same thing for Eddie Alvarez. Justin Gaethje has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights. But when Eddie fought Justin, he was undefeated. Anthony Pettis is 3-4 since he fought Eddie. But when they fought, Pettis had just lost the UFC LW Belt in his last fight, and was the # 1 ranked contender at LW. Gilbert has lost 5 out of his last 6 fights. But when he fought Gilbert, Melendez was ranked # 4, and had only lost 2 times(in Title fights) in the previous 6 years.

Lots of trolling in this thread, especially the one about BJ Penn's record lol.

BJ Penn's 3 title defenses were against Sean Sherk, a guy who has identical height and reach as FW Denis Siver, Kenny Florian, and Diego Sanchez...

Conor, Iaquinta, Barboza, and RDA alone are better than Sean Sherk, Florian, and Sanchez.

By the way, if Khabib retires now, he has the best resume at LW in the history of the UFC.

Khabib is 27-0 and fucking destroyed Conor.

Really all that needs to be said to completely invalidate your paragraphs of damage control.

His Healy and Johnson fights haven't aged well, but both were top 10 guys when khabib ran through them.

I'm excited to see khabib against the top contenders too.
