Why do people keep saying Khabib will lose due to cardio? He's never gassed out in his career. How can his cardio be his "weakness" if he's never gassed out?

This didn't require it's own thread.

Khabib has solid cardio. His issue is that his style takes a ridiculous amount of energy. He's never "gassed", I agree. He's slowed down noticeably though, or taken rounds off.

I doubt his cardio matter in this fight either. His style might take a lot out of him early, but it takes more out of his opponents and Dustin (similarly to Khabib) has a good but not amazing gas tank. So if Khabib takes him down and Dustin is forced to defend the first couple rounds, it's likely that Dustin is more tired than Khabib.

In round 3 against Conor he did look a bit sloppy. But we all know what happened after that so doesn't really matter

the pros know hes a cardio machine and break people using high pressure and a high pace. to anyone with an ounce of knowledge in combat sports khabib is a proven cardio machine.

he was breaking ppl with cardio in 3 rounders, you know how hard that is?

Because he generally get's the take down and lays on people most of the fight and has time to recover. IMO If Dustin is pressuring Khabib on his feet you will see him slow down by the 2nd half of round 2.

Some of the answer is "if you were Dustin's trainer, how would you prepare to fight him?" Maybe trying to gas out Khabib provides a very low chance of winning....but still higher than all the other options.

And no, he has never lost a fight by gassing. But he has definitely slowed down. But as others have said, he controlled when, and took time off in order to save energy. Very smart. He has managed his energy quite well. But he has slowed down.

I think it (making Khabib gas) can be part of a larger strategy.

P.s.: Your alias...loved the books...

Lays is equivalent to smashing their faces for you ?

Even so, you are expending far less energy, less than 50%, on top of someone, than standing up.

I'm not a wrestler but generally people says that wrestling is the most exhausting discipline.
The thing is when you're getting smashed and have to carry your opponent weight, it's more exhausting for you.

He has only smashed so far, it's easy to have good endurance and pace when you are the nail 99% of the time

If somebody manages to put him in a bad position then his gas tank will be tested for real

However, he did kindof take, I think it was the third round, of both Iaquinta and Mcgregor fights off, and didn't do much pushing for the TD, so it seems like he wants to pace himself to make sure he finish strong in the 25th minute.

Can't remember which wrestler in UFC who said it but it was a former champion, he said that it's impossible to wrestle hard for 25 minutes, you have to pace yourself

Slowed down =/= gassed. I like your explanation, I just don't see how slowing down a bit while dominating every high level opponent you've faced is a feasible argument for having a shitty gas tank. Or even a suspect one.

He has slowed down a little in fights before, but not too badly. Against Poirier who has a questionable gas tank, it isn't really a concern.

His cardio could be a concern against Tony though

If he is in smash mode for 2 rounds he needs the 3rd to coast.
He is a workhorse, so his gas tank is atleast B+.

Tony never wrestles his opponets, its much more taxing on the body to wrestle for 25 min than it is to strike.

He's only gone to championship rounds twice and in those fights there were rounds where nothing happened. Could be he didn't feel threatened and just fucked around for a while or it could be he was pacing himself cause his gas tank's dodgy. We don't yet know for sure either way.
