I think it comes down to how willing are both Tony and Khabib to risk losing the Conor lottery...because if they fight each other, the loser is pretty much off Conor's radar, possibly for good.

assuming they both are willing to take that chance, then they should campaign heavily to fight each other, but on the condition that it is for the actual title.

Conor can act all pissed off, talk all kinds of "I'm the real champ" shit on social media while he sits until the summer, and it does nothing to hinder his future options: he will still be able to fight the Tony-Khabib winner, or do the Nate trilogy, or go box again, or whatever he wants.
