Khabib on Conor: I expected him to be Mentally Tougher

As a very mediocre athlete in the sports I competed in, I would say I was very mentally strong when I was better than my competitors & not so mentally strong when I was clearly worse than my competitors

After you knocked him down, beat on him from on top for nearly an entire round, he escaped to his feet and laughed in your face and came out swinging again.

He was certainly mentally tougher than guys like Poirier and Gaethje who folded at the first sign of adversity.

I've seen plenty idiots laugh before they got their asses kicked

I mean to me Conor actually showed how tough he was In that fight, I thought it was over after khabib started mauling and gnp him like crazy in round two. But he took his ass whipping and went on to win the next round even though it was khabib recovering round but still if he was mentally defeated he wouldn’t of won the third and would just be scared of doing anything in that round.

So a skill difference, not a mental toughness difference. Thanks for agreeing.

Also Conor laughed and then went on to win the next round. So not really applicable.

He was composed during the fight and won easily. Nothing else matters.
he wasn't that composed, he let his emotions get the best of him in the second round and nearly punched himself out. If Conor had better cardio Khabib might have been in serious trouble.

Didn’t he nearly submit Conor with a kimura in the second round? As far as I remember the only reason he wasn’t able to finish it was because of Conor’s cheating lmao.

Says the guy who jumped out of the ring to attack people. Great mental composure there...

Oh, you want to deflect and point to examples outside of their fight? :D

Yes, clearly Conor's mental composure was soooo high when he threw a dolly at a bus...when he slapped a phone out of a guy's hand...when he punched an OLD MAN on a bar stool...when he...

that's true. I'm not a Conor fan, I just said Khabib let his emotions get to him and nearly punched himself out in the second. I was rooting for Khabib and was concerned he might have a problem due to using that much energy but fortunately Conor's cardio sucks so he couldn't take advantage of it besides winning a close round in the 3rd.

grasping at straws

Conor was beaten before he even entered the cage, hence the whiskey compensation.

It was just his turn to suffer the same fate he inflicted upon others (with his badgering pre-fight antagonism).

“Conor’s trash talk? Yes, he had talked for a while [during the fight], but when I started pushing him, he immediately switched to the ‘it’s just business‘ mode [referencing what McGregor said in the cage]”

“ I was a bit disappointed. I expected him to be mentally tougher. When I was grounding-and-pounding him, talking to him, and he responded that it was “just business” it looked like he was trying to calm me down to avoid a real beating.

Nurmagomedov likened the whole ordeal to ‘a son trying to justify himself in front of his angry father’

‘Psychology is a very strong tool’, the Dagestan fighter concluded.”

Honestly Khabibs mental destruction of Conor was the most impressive thing about the fight in my opinion. Khabib utterly broke him. Think thats the most mentally defeated a fighter has been in a fight before.
fully agree with your post, it was amazing from that aspect alone.
