He could of smashed Al Iaquinta. Brutally smashed him like Michael Johnson, or Barbosa. But he went easy on the punishment and instead practiced his game and 5 round capabilities. He spared Al due to him stepping up and giving Khabib an opponent when things were leaking bleak. I’m sure today Al woke up and thanked Khabib for not rearranging his face. Good job Al, great job Khabib.

Well, uh, I suppose that's one way of looking at it.

Are we sure Khabib deliberately 'spared' Al and decided to go easy on him, we sure ?

We are not sure. But I believe that was his motive. Also to not scare poor Conny away and show that he will stand and bang. But then the cage closes and khabib will take Conor down and hold him down.

He definitely did not seem to have the same intensity and viciousness as in previous fights.

Idk if that was the reason though.

He seems more like a bully than a class act. Don't like the way he big timed Conor's teammate.

I think he was in cruise control. He was winning, he knew it. He decided to take no major risks nor to tire himself by going full tilt, so he played it a bit safe. It was after all his first 5 rounder in the UFC IIRC.

I don't think he consciously took it easy on Al out of mercy or kindness...nor to prove a point.

Pretty much. Listen to his post fight interviews and press conference. He basically toyed last night. And I noticed from the start he didn't have the pressure and nonstop distance closure that he normally does.

Seemed like it.

In the 3rd/4th he shot for like 2 half-assed takedowns (seemed like he did it just to make Al less comfortable standing), then in the 5th he easily pushed him against the fence (again) and just had his way with him.

Khabib was trying to get some experience standing while Al was timid due to the first 2 rounds.

I definitely will agree that Khabib realized it was an easy fight, and did himself the favor of going 5 rounds, because 5 rounds in practice is not the same as 5 rounds inside the cage.

Khabib was already thinking ahead by the end of round 1.

Man,dont stick up for Artem. That guy is the cause of this whole mess. Conors pet lap dog deserves everything he got and more.

I'm not sticking up for Artem. He could be a dick as well. But the way Khabib and his team approached Artem was bullying bullshit. The condescending way he was slapping him on the head was obnoxious. Khabib is a bully.

He was definitely pacing himself, but all this "he took it easy on him" is such bullshit, lol. If he could've smashed Al, he would've smashed Al, end of story.

Artem deserved everything he got. His actions after the fact further drive this point home.

Nah. His takedowns were getting stuffed and he was forced to stand. When he did get Al down he was punching him always and trying to choke but Al was doing a really good job of holding onto Khabibs hands/wrists so he couldn't get as much off as he wanted.
