The #4 ranked lw. The title challenger. Multiple fight night headliner. Almost 10 years of being in the ufc lw rankings.

His wins aren't all that impressive relative to the rest of the top 15 in the division. Most are over old warhorses that should have retired years ago like Sanchez, Lauzon and Pearson. Add in a couple of bad losses like the one to Mitch Clarke and it's hard to say he was ever a world class fighter. His claim to fame was going the whole distance against Khabib on 1 day notice.

I don't know why people call D-Rod a bum or a journeyman. Critique his style if you like, but he's 16-2 and never been finished. Only loss in UFC was the decision to Dalby. I had Lee losing that fight the day it was announced.

And he arguably got robbed in both of those losses depending on who you ask. Without that Dalby loss there's a solid case for an 18-0 Daniel Rodriguez who would probably already be at or near the Top 10 fighting the likes of Geoff Neal, the Leech, or Neil Magny right now...

Lee won't snif the top 5 but he could.
D-rod seems like he peaked.

What? Look at both mens' respective career trajectories. Kevin Lee is never going to make the current Top 5 at 155 or 170. He'll be lucky if he still has a job in the UFC a few years from now. I daresay his best years are behind him. He is the one who peaked... and that peak was back around 2017 IMO.

Daniel may or may not make the Top 5, but I can easily see him hanging around in the Top 15, maybe even well into the Top 10 as a solid gatekeeper. No evidence to suggest he's peaked just yet. Not being elite doesn't make one a bum, either FYI.

And I say this as a guy who was dismayed by his performance against Dalby.

D-rod has literally never been ranked in his life, never even been considered for a main event. You can say Al was a bit overrated, and drag his wins as much as you like but it's a joke to say he should be considered worse compitition then d-rod.
Edit: you're saying Lauzon at 31 should have been retired after he had just finished Chiesa?
Sanchez at 33 coming a win over Marcin Held and Miller earlier the previous year should have been retired then?
Pearson at 30 just finished Maynard, after losing to Al he goes on to beat sam stout and paula Felder, should also have been retired?

Sadly I think Kevin will never amount to anything more than a dude who once fought for an Interim Title by talking himself into it. Unfortunate cause he had solid skills and a passion that he wasted by being immature and undisciplined. He strikes me as a guy that when he's on his game and stops fucking around he can look excellent. Unfortunately the damage is already done. His chin is gone, his cardio is fucked and it looks like he's slowly slipping out of his prime. He failed to make the best out of a great opportunitiy and I'd be surprised to see him stick around for much longer in the UFC.

Daniel Rodriguez isn't a bum. He's got solid striking technique, he seems to hit pretty hard, he's got a great chin, and he seems to have some kind of intangible that some guys don't have. An extra gear of some sorts. I know the guy has had a colorful life and spent a lot of time in and out of prisons at one point. He seems to be completely unfazed by everything that encompasses a fight and doesn't ever seem to be deterred by any kind of in-ring adversity. That's something that Kevin Lee has lacked in the past. When he hits a wall, he hits a wall hard. Rodriguez is one of those guys that you have to take completely out or he'll still be there. You can't call a guy a "bum" for that.

He kinda does. We saw Rory reach his prime at an early age but im convinced that Lawler war took too much out of him.

We haven't seen Lee in a career altering fight like that so i don't think it's physical. Just bad choices.
It is physical. He has shit cardio and his striking is not fast or explosive enough. Other than connecting a couple of headkicks against Gillespie and Trinaldo he is crap.
He also gets wobbled all the time. His chin is weak.
His body is fragile too.. dude spend most of his time injured.

People like to think he is some sort of specimen because of the way he looks but he is not.. at all.

D-Rod is a dog.
Just match him with stand and bang dudes for the rest of his career and let us enjoy.
