That's what Hollywood mega star Kevin Costner is wondering, as he tells TMZ Sportsthat MMA should be included in the next Olympic games (and beyond) because the sport has the real tough guys in it.

"I think it should be in the Olympics. I do. I don't know why it wouldn't go into the next one, it pretty much established itself as one of the greatest sports out there. I think it's where the real tough guys exist.

No. The judging would be appropriately awful and corrupt.

And it would lean in favor of American competitors and the Olympic committee certainly wouldn't want that.

Olympics last a month.
What kind of fight this would be if its to make them fight at least three times in a month ?

The only way it makes it into the olympics is if it becomes a shitty bastardized version like Boxing. I'll pass.

I agree with him, but its going to be difficult to get it regulated in every country in time to get it on any of the upcoming olympic games. Its not even recognised as a sport in the UK yet.

1 thing is, it would have to be amatuer level only..... some would complain about this, but I think it would be a good thing to help develop fighters properly before they turn pro

Maybe he could be a bodyguard for Conor should he ever drop by Stockton on a world tour.

They'd need to develop an actual amateur system first. Unless they want to allow pros (which would probably lead to a whole host of other problems). If they do ever develop a real international amateur system, then I'd be for it. If not, I think it would be best to avoid the idea altogether.

All sports lean in the favor of American competitors.

He's biased since his twin Keith Hackney was a legit contender in the first couple UFCs.

I actually disagree. I don't think that boxing should be, either.
Fundamental Principles of Olympism (basis for the Olympic Games):
1. Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy of effort, the educational value of good example, social responsibility and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.
2. The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of humankind, with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.
3. The Olympic Movement is the concerted, organised, universal and permanent action, carried out under the supreme authority of the IOC, of all individuals and entities who are inspired by the values of Olympism. It covers the five continents. It reaches its peak with the bringing together of the world’s athletes at the great sports festival, the Olympic Games. Its symbol is five interlaced rings.
4. The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.
5. Recognising that sport occurs within the framework of society, sports organisations within the Olympic Movement shall have the rights and obligations of autonomy, which include freely establishing and controlling the rules of sport, determining the structure and governance of their organisations, enjoying the right of elections free from any outside influence and the responsibility for ensuring that principles of good governance be applied.
6. The enjoyment of the rights and freedoms set forth in this Olympic Charter shall be secured without discrimination of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, sexual orientation, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
7. Belonging to the Olympic Movement requires compliance with the Olympic Charter and recognition by the IOC.

No thanks to a toned down version of MMA in the Olympics.

Just a question why would it have to be amateurs only ? The Olympic commitee currently allows paid professionals to compete at the Olympics in various sports, tennis, golf, basketball , football .....

Serena Williams won the singles and doubles ( with her sister Venus) golds at the last Olympics, she earnt $25 million dollars that year.

Olympic boxers are now allowed to compete in paid bouts in the WSB and still keep their 'amateur' status .There has been a lot of talk recently about the lines between AM/Pro in boxing being further blurred and allowing pro's to compete in future Olympics.

Hardly. It's not hard to figure out why sports like baseball and softball get cut by "secret ballot" and the truly ridiculous crap they include like trampoline and power walking remain.

I don't think it would be feasible because they would have to run it like amateur boxing and have 4-5 matches. Aside from everything else, would they even find competitors from 64 nations?
