Kelvin: "I sometimes get up to 215. I like that Mexican food."

It would be bad ass if I could eat pizza and buffalo wings all day but damn....

gotta make sacrifices to be in shape.

mma is way behind the curve in being a pro athlete

this sort of thing has cost hendricks and probably DC badly. it cost bj and countless others badly also. travis lutter may have won the title if he stayed in shape

pro athletes in other sports stay in shape all year. they may slack off for two months a year. a lot of mma fighters have the mentality of "training camps" vs always being a pro and peaking before fights. i think this also leads to a lot more injuries

even in other pro sports, 10 years ago athletes didnt diet, stretch, and train as diligently as they do all year round today. i think it will take a while to get fighters to catch on

fighters always talk about how mma is the toughest sport but i dont think they have the slightest clue of how a pro hockey player does things for example. 82 regular season games per year + pre season games + up to another 28 playoff games + practice pretty much every single day+ a brutal travel schedule. this is a full contact game that also includes getting blasted with slapshots regularly, chopped with a stick, and bare knuckle fights. they take 2 months off a year where they still keep fit and spend the rest of the year living like a pro athlete. mma fighters seem to think theyre taking shit to the next level by doing 3 camps a year or less and then acting like a pig in between

It is insane how fit NHL players are. When they aren't playing they are taking at most a few weeks off and then getting prepared for the next season by getting into shape. NHL players pretty much train year round. NHL players spend a lot of time traveling around North America as well.

Chael Sonnen on Lazy Fighters:

Chael Sonnen talked to the Houston Chronicle's Jeremy Botter about lazy fighters who train "fulltime" "Look, anybody who is a full time fighter is a full time lazy guy. There's no way. What do we work out for, three hours a day? I've got a two hour session with Team Quest and a one hour session on my own each day. That's three hours a day. I've got friends who spend more time playing golf. That leaves you 21 hours a day. You can either contribute to society or you can play Playstation. There is no such thing as a full time fighter. You can say that all you want, but unless you're working out 40 hours a week -- which you are not -- it's just not full time. That's just the truth." Photo via UFC.com UFC 117 Coverage

215 bruh, forget Mini-Cain. He is just a few burritos, churros, chorizos and horchatas away from weighing in the same weight as Life Size Cain.

Yeah well it just made you look like a fool cost you 30% an probably a title shot hope that burrito was worth it

This guy shouldn't be cutting to 170 man. Forget mini Cain, he's more like Rumble.

Kelvin, like Cain, should fight one class heavier than their body type calls for. They have enough skill and cardio to be very competitive there.

If you like your career more then fucking diet.

The UFC should put something into their fighter contracts about not allowing them to eat Mexican.

Gotta love that you referenced hockey players as the ones to look up to in terms of staying in peak all around shape and not football or basketball. That frequency and length of the nhl schedule is nuts.

Excellent post. I'm a hockey fan too, so I definitely appreciate the work they put in.
