Kelvin Gastelum should be applauded. He is “old school”.

Whittaker is undersized too, he is a small MW. And he is fighting at MW not because he missed weight too many times, but because he realized that weight cutting wasn't for him.

' Kelvin. A sweetheart. A talent. Great head on him. Both chin and the mindset. Future will tell us more, but he is a belt material. Called it early and he will prove it (for himself). '

He has a unique body, I'm not surprised he struggles to make 170, not sure it's just a discipline thing.

Massive head and torso.
He's not a physique model or bodybuilder

His body shape, the fact that he loves his Mexican food a little too much and the fact that he is a pot head all mean that he will struggle to make 170.

Kelvin isn’t old school. The only reason he is fighting at MW is because he can’t reliably make WW. Simply put Kelvin is a MW.

Yup. More than once, after missing weight for 170, Dana said that Kelvin has to move up, but multiple times his response was that he was a WW and that he will return to WW after a forced bout or two at MW. His mentality is not old school at all, even if he is "forced" to be old school.

Hes a natural MW where as guys like Bisping, Jacare, Weidman, Vitor are all natural LHWs.

He's definitely a tough guy and a true scrapper, but I think he has no choice but to fight bigger men. He either lacks the discipline to make welterweight anymore, or he just has insanely dense bone and muscle and that's the only route he's got.

Imagine Kelvin with 10 % bodyfat-level, rippling abs, playing with their toes n shit.

You can go very far in fighting with a dense bone-structure.

Gastulum is one of my favorite fighters, but eventually size will play a part again at MW.

He's making this more difficult than it should be.

Of course a moron with a name like the TS wants a guy to fight out of weight so he would never realize his true potential. He was forced to fight at this weight by the way. Why would you want a fighter to be old school in an evolving sport? Oh wait it’s becase the mans nuts youbwant to sniff never evolved.

I was not a fan of Kelvin when he was missing weight at WW. He might be “small” at MW but he’s making weight, taking on all challenges and delivering good performances.

He’s not “old school” in my mind but he has impressed me with his skills and willingness to fight. Plus, he has that ordinary nice guy charisma. He’s no Conor but he speaks well enough and comes across as genuine.

He's only "old school" because Dana forced him to be tho.

Forced him? He has accepted every fight he was offered. Not many guys are willing to fight Jacare for example.

Dana forced him to go up a weight class but hasn't forced him to take fights.

Kelvin is a gordito welterweight. Jacare looked old and was gassed completely after the 1st round. Kelvin is one of those guys who's just too ugly to be champion.

He is revered around here. Sherdoggers have supported Kelvin since his run on TUF.

Dude is definitely a beast + hes active someone i could see as a future champ forsure
