Keeping the chin tucked doesn't seem to be as effective in MMA compared to boxing (KHABIB)

Khabib is copping a lot of heat for keeping his chin up but it seems to be a tactic a lot of top-level fighters use such as conor mcgregor and dominick cruz, I remember TJ always talked shit about cruz's technique but then he lost the fight I think this is because a lot of people still follow that boxing saying "always keep your chin tucked". As the sport evolves more people seem to be keeping their chin up so they have more vision and can observe whats going on and they also seem to use it as some sort of a bait to lure people in and then to counterstrike them or take them down, comeon guys khabib has fought some of the best fighters in the world and has never been hurt, keeping the chin up seems to be working.

These guys dont fight in the pocket. They get in and get out.

Iaquinta was not throwing combo moving forward so Khabib was in no danger to get hit. The fear of the takedown open up a lot of the stand up for guys like Khabib or Georges

It seems to work for Khabib so I see no problem with it.

Especially because he is pretty fast and has a solid chin.

yeah you always see this where grapplers end up doing better when they're striking just because of the threat of the takedown.

Tony ferguson does it as well, I think he uses it as a bait to start engages.

So Iaquinta is the only fight Khabib has had? Wow, I thought he was 26 - 0.........

Chuck always had his chin up too. Worked for him until it didn't

When you wear 4oz gloves, blocking is no longer the best type of defense. The best defense in MMA is simply not being there when your opponent throws. Keeping your head back gives you better vision as well as helps you be a little further out of reach.

Now with that being said, if you don't have good footwork or your opponent knows how to close the distance, you are hugely susceptible to overhands.

What? I dont know where you're going with that.

On top of my head, it's the first time that we see Khabib fighting at range thus his defense with the low lead hand.

Against Barboza, RDA, Johnson and all he was pressuring guys against the cage and had his hands up pretty much all the time

Conor would knock Khabib out.

Styles make fights. Iaquinta was difficult for Khabib because he has a great gas tank and good TDD. I just can’t see how Connor wouldn’t wilt quickly if taken down and going through what Iaquinta and Barboza did in the early rounds against Khabib. Conor may always have the KO chance but I think Khabib wears him down handily and quickly finishes him

Conor is a true gangster.

None of those guys are like Tony and he prepared for Tony. Maybe he used that with Al because Al was supposed to be a striker as well (like Tony).

That left hand. No one can take that left hand.

as long as you don't get popped on the button it works fine, but you are sure offering up that button..

Because MMA strikers are pretty average - none of them have solid fundamentals (obviously exceptions) but for the most part it's a lot of athleticism that gets them out of danger with their chins high.

Eventually it will catch up to them.

I agree

Tony is another kind of monster and wont mind getting taken down. That guy is batshit crazy in a good way for fighting and has unlimited gas tank.

It will be a very intringuing matchup but I still think Khabib pulls it off. It will be the 6th time that they have a camp for each other...

I think he might leave his chin up there to get guys to over commit and take them down when they do. It is scary though watching him leave it out there like that. I expect he will end up paying for it if he keeps fighting long enough
