‘The Aldo fight was such a big result for the gym and the country, that we all took the foot off the pedal,’ Kavanagh told MMAjunkie.com.

‘Then you’re straight into another one, and it’s hard to explain the mindset at the time, but it was a bit of a circus, almost like it was a pretend fight.

‘It was kind of like, ‘Ah, you’ll just hit him once and he’ll go down and then we’ll carry on with the journey and get ready for the dos Anjos fight, because that’s important.”

Asinine statements like these made by longtime Mcgregor trainer, John Kavanagh, are one of the many reasons why I cannot take this guy seriously. I would respect Mcgregor and Kavanagh if they just said they got beat by the better fighter that night without any qualifying excuses.

Mcgregor and company have contradicted themselves many times, but to say they lost because they didn't take the fight or Nate Diaz seriously is an utter lack of respect to Nate and to the fans if they expect us to believe any of this nonsense.

"it was a pretend fight" is dangerously close to Johny Hendricks and Tiki Ghosn tier excuse making

Then he had it coming and deserved every single slap.

P.S. I doubt it, I think he worked a lot and got his ass kicked anyway. Anything can happen in the rematch and I'm actually rooting for Conor, but I don't believe this "we didn't take it seriously" shit.

Kavanagh with another stellar interview. Someone needs to make Kavanagh Book of excuses

Yep. I expect Kavanagh to protect his fighter to a certain extent, but this kind of spin doctoring is complete horsecrap.

Should of ate 4 breakfasts instead of 3 breakfasts.

This seems so ridiculous. So when they are training to fight the most dangerous LW in the world who is known for his relentless pace and ungodly cardio all that preparation disappears because the opponent changed?

The leprechauns are just scurrying everywhere coming up with excuses. Each more idiotic than the last.

I think it's possible they didn't take it seriously

Doubtful. Both men know what's at stake, a loss would have (and it did) taken away some of Mcgregor's momentum and his aura of invincibility to causal fans.

That is entirely possible.

And people on this site like to pretend Nate, of all people, is a super consistent world beater that never folded and was never embarassed. He barely even had any fans before McHaters joined his bandwagon!

I love Nate, but come on, people. It is entirely possible they did overlook Nate.

That lamess is not even up to Sherdog standards. Which is saying A LOT.

Are you dumb? He's always had good ratings when he was headlining, and both Diaz bros have a good following amongst hardcore fans.
With Nate's win over Mcgregor, that's brought him over to the casual fan base.

It's possible but styles make fights and Nate is a terrible matchup for Conor. If they couldn't see that I'll be shocked

You don't get voted MMA coach of the year - 2015 without being good at your job.

Kav is right. They did overlook Nate. They were 10% looking at Nate / 90% RDA - By my calculations he only needs to be at around 14% to defeat Nate. Any more than 30% and he kills him.

Do not be dense. There was not a single Diaz fan around the Thompson and RdA fights. The RdA fight was downright pathetic.

And I love Nate. I think he is awesome. But if you are telling me these boards were all love for Nate... I don't know what to tell you.

Oh yes. If they overlooked Nate, it was crazy, but... They both look like the kind of crazy people who would buy into the hype. Honestly, Kavanaugh feels like a bad coach. He sometimes feels like he wants to be a celebrity too, when Conor might need a Winklejohn or a Greg Jackson with him, people who will vanish behind the curtains and work on what they are supposed to work.
