tkd is pretty niche and not really equipped to deal with mma, or other stand up arts, in any real way.

yes but which type of Karate?

as a lifelong Karateka i know there is a vast difference between Goju ryu to Shotokan.

my pick would be Kyokushin kai since its the most modern and complete hybrid of the best of them via mas oyama

taekwondo is definitely useful but impractical compared to the most deliberately engineered kicks and overall more complete nature of Karate itself.

anyone who doubts Karate for MMA is ignorant and should know the art is spoiled by McDojos in USA and around the world to which only use Sports point sparring Karate.

Aikido for me

The way Akido stopped the very old man from slapping the shit out of Segal's face with his free hand...
No other art can do that.
<{ohyeah}>

No to Karate
Look at Thompson
Gets smashed every time nearly

Taekwondo worth it just to try one Chandler kick

Karate = point fighting IMO

If I'm in the cage and they start point fighting like Strickland I go unga bunga

Kyokushin Karate - it is an aggressive style where you learn to take a hit and sit in the pocket
Shotokan Karate - if your style is to be a counter puncher

Clearly karate is the choice of the GOAT and generational great- Jones, GSP, Machida, etc.

There are actually a lot of uses of karate in MMA fights. Even boxer Max has gotten into some karate moves.

Karate is also a lot broader than TKD; there are many different styles that emphasize different aspects of the game.

Say if you had to choose between the two to learn.

Which would you rather choose to add to your MMA arsenal?
Oh I’d definitely choose both.

But what if I had to pick one between the two ? Oh that, THAT would be a great question.

They don’t even punch in TKD

Ive seen them straight push each other back into kicking range when close enough for hands LoL

Karate guy beats TKD guy in mma or street fight 9/10 times

I’d put a high school wrestler against either
