I like both of these guys. I think Gaethje wins handily, but I assume the fight was made because both guys are tough - most fighters with Al's skills would be KO'ed by JG in the first or 2nd... add in the toughness and this fight likely goes to the 3rd or 4th (assuming it/s a main event 5 rounder)
Gonna go with Al since Justin has been adamant about remaining a punching bag. Iaquinta hits hard and is durable, and that might be enough against Gaethje.
I wonder if he'll apply a wrestling tactic to his arsenal this time around? There was mention somewhere that Justin did consider a different approach in his next fight but considering Al will trade on the feet with him it's really hard to say if Justin will try some wrestling?
On his “Call Me Al” podcast, Iaquinta mentioned August or September as a target date with the former World Series of Fighting champion. However, Gaethje countered on Twitter that Iaquinta would not be ready to fight in August.
Now, it appears that any life the bout might have had is no more, and according to UFC President Dana White, responsibility for that falls on Iaquinta.
“That fight isn’t gonna happen. Iaquinta is absolutely 100 percent out of that fight,” White said on the "UFC Unfiltered” podcast.
I love it. The reaction was fairly positive so he changed his tune, and rightfully so, this is a solid fight.
