Kind of reminds me of win Nick Diaz went on that crazy Strikeforce run but struggled in his return back to UFC. Gaethje is an incredible fighter, but anyone who believes that the UFC doesnt promote the best top tier talent in the world is delusional. Hopefully he can bounce back and just adjust his game slightly to compete at that next level.

Both fights (Alvarez and Poirier) were competitive and winnable for Justin, though. If anything, it proved he's on the same level as those guys.

Gaethje didn't prove anything because we already know there are levels to this game.

Off the top of my head, dc, rockhold, alvarez all came over from other orgs and won ufc belts

Brawler with one hell of a heart and no boxing skills whatsoever. And when you imagine he had Poirier and Alvarez both hurt you see how low level striking is in the UFC. I'm not hating its really low level when Khabib is outboxing people and Conor considered a good boxer LOL. Most overrated division ever. Hell even at HW you might find a bit more skill.

I'm more amazed by people that expected him to become champion. The guy is well rounded and has a chin rating of 1.5 Lebens, but he never defeated anyone in WSOF to suggest he would be a top 5 fighter in the UFC.

That said, he is a top fighter and deserves his spot. Unfortunately, his style seems to promise great declines for him as time goes on.

what is with people and the phrase "there are levels to this game"

Really? did you think nobody knew that? I'm hearing it in like every interview now. Yes, we are aware that there are multiple skill levels. thanks for telling us!

You're right. Everyone is awful. Zero talent. This is why everyone who originated in boxing and K1 is undefeated in MMA.......

So many people swear this up and down all the time. What is this based on lol

I suppose it's all about matchups. Regardless, at the time that Ben likely could have been signed, he'd have been entering a WW division with guys like Koscheck, Hendricks, Ellenburger, GSP, and so on, and I believe they'd all have wrecked him (many by knockout).

Hype train completely derailed but I still like him and will pay attention to anything he is involved in plus Dustin is a tough dude man, losing to him is not the end of the world

I'm not saying zero talent, ofcourse there are some warriors down there. It's just laughable when I see people talk about LW how it is stacked. Yeah stacked with brawlers and onedimensional fighters. Don't get me wrong I love MMA and I enjoyed the fights last night. But I am pissed off when people call the heavier weight classes shallow when you have this crazy shit at LW sold as talent.

Who would have thought that Poirier and Eddie are better opponents than Palomino, Dan Luazon or Guillard?

Yes, UFC has the best talents in the world. Very few exceptions (Rory, Moose, Bader, Davis) who left UFC because of the money issue, not because they were on a losing streak.
Also, Askren, Shlemenko, Koreshkov, Lima and Minakov could do well in UFC, but who knows...

Strikeforce had legit talent.

What's crazy is Askren and Woodley are former college teammates and friends. If anyone knows how to stop Askren's wrestling it's the guy that wrestled with him for hours everyday.

WW is dominated by wrestlers/grapplers(Maia, Usman, Colby, Woodley etc) and Askren is on top of the food chain in wrestling
