Him and Edson were far and away 2 best in LW and the sport up there

Edson was visibly damaged and his leg was completely purple after like 5-6 leg kicks
 
Definitely chopped that tree down with the quickness. I always considered Aldo to be up there too.
 
Not really, but his lack of caring about leg kicks is GOAT level.

Edson is an outside kicker. Gaethje is an inside kicker.

Gaethje is just so much better at getting inside than Edson is at staying outside.

Frankly, he shouldn't be considered elite. Almost as a rule, Barboza loses to elite fighters. If you can't beat elite fighters at least half the time, then those guys are not your peers.

He's 5-5 in his last 10 and gets put away spectacularly on a regular basis.

Yeah if we're talking all time he's got a list of mules to compete with (Mirko, Rizzo etc hell even Arona had crazy leg kicks). But modern day, dem leg kicks definitely do work.

Edsons legs were already significantly damaged. It clearly played a part in the KO.

Barbozas been pressured against the cage many times and punches by guys like Johnson, Ferg, Hooker, Lee and Khabib and none of them dropped him or came close to KOing him like that. He still had his legs in those fights to pivot and use his footwork well. He had no chance avoiding that punch

Edson was feeling it only 20 seconds into the fight. Those kicks Gaethje throws are no joke
 
Technically I feel edson is better but justin carries the threat of wrestling and turning shit into a brawl quick so you're forced to eat them. However justin's effectiveness can't be denied. He uses kicks better than anyone in mma currently for sure
