then you are still wrong

hello GetTheseHands,

no, he's right.

if the GOP actually made some meaningful moves to put the ball in motion to strike down Roe vs Wade, it will be like mana from heaven for the left.

It's not pointless. Read the 10th Amendment.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The power to regulate abortion is reserved to the states. It's been that way since 1791.

19th amendment:

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

I completely disagree. Why would you have faith in the Republican base?

You conveniently ignored my point about Civil Rights as well. Some freedoms need to be universal, otherwise you are infringing on individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

The reason I didn't respond directly is because "civil rights" is more vague than "slavery". Of course, different states will have different views on what constitutes "civil rights". Oregon might decide that you have a right to be called by your preferred gender pronoun, but Texas might not agree.

....yes. That is the 19th Amendment.

Why are you copying and pasting it here?

Do you think that States should be able to discriminate based on race, sex, age, etc.?

Sorry about that, I knew it was about Women's Suffrage, but I read it as being a universal decree that State's couldn't discriminate against U.S. citizen's rights based on sex.

hello again Homer,

i may have caught that exchange halfway thru.

i have faith that the GOP leadership will never actually move against a woman's right to choose (beyond campaign trail rhetoric for the witless).

i believe such a thing would be catastrophic for them and they'd get crucified at the ballotbox for it, and i believe they know this.

Do you mean state governments in the hiring process? Please be more specific.
Should they be able to pass a, Freedom of Religion Law(For Example) that allows public businesses to openly discriminate against broad categories of people?

I guarantee they will overturn Roe v. Wade in the next 18 months. Sig bet on it?

herro HomerThompson,

i don't really know what that is. i've never done any of that.

does that mean if you're right, you get to insert a Homer homily into my user ID or something like that?

I didn't vote for her, but not because of Bernie. It was because I was sick and tired of voting for the lesser of 2 evils. I've done it my entire life, and I was sick of it.

Also, I lived in an extremely red state, and my vote didn't matter at all because of the electoral college. Of course, I had researched the ballot initiatives ahead of time, to make sure there wasn't something I felt I needed to support.

It's nice to know that your "pragmatic" instincts led you to have your initial reaction to this tragedy for the rule of law, to be to poke your finger in the eye of the left. You're a really terrific ally. Your first post in here was sticking it to people who didn't like Hillary.

Not anger at the right, but smug condescension aimed at the left. Fucking pathetic.
Say it's not so Homer!

Mitch McConell is on tv talking about the urgency of choosing a supreme justice so”the voice of the people can be heard.”

The republicans are the sleaziest pieces of trash going. It’s so blatantly obvious at this point it’s sickening

No problem. The irony is that the 19th Amendment is a great illustration of my point. Prior to its ratification, many (maybe most, haven't checked) states had already granted women's suffrage. Some states preferred to limit suffrage to men, but the mega majority decided that women's suffrage was a fundamental civil right and overruled the individual states. That's how the system is supposed to work.

By public business, I assume you mean "private business that accommodates the public"?

What would the proposed law say? That firms can deny service to customers on the basis of their religious beliefs? That would violate Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Although I support the content of Title II, my view is that a constitutional amendment is required to implement it. That shouldn't be a problem, as I believe that such an amendment would be ratified.

Actually I want to replace the Judge Judy nomination

Has nudes and they are pretty good for her age.

You can add a signature that displays in your posts under the body of the message. If I win, I get to pick your signature for a predetermined amount of time. Same for you, if you win. Let's say 3 months?

say it ain't so Homer!...

Sadly you are one of the reasons why we have Trump as our President. Even if you voted in a non-swing state you represent a group of folks who contributed "negatively" in the election for Hillary. You are not the only one. I knew plenty who think like you and voted elsewhere out of spite.

sigh... I still think of you as my homey.
Homey broke my heart today too
