Just watched Poirier vs Hooker

I love Dustin but he looked awful vs hooker compared to say Holloway. Physically he was so slow, his combos weren't flowing, defense was dreadful and hardly kept his hands up..just everything. I have seen him look much better and on point. I'm hoping it was the injuries/ long layoff etc. Cause if he comes in like that I don't think it'll end well.

Fast and on point Dustin with a good game plan has a good chance vs Conor, but even if he looks great movement etc wise does he f it all up getting out of his game plan with his willingness to exchange attitude? I don't like it cause Dustin has all the tools to beat Conor but if I had to bet I have to go with Conor. At 2.5 - 1 though, I like those odds for action on Dustin but nothing below that, too many things against him and it's hard not to go by last performance.

Oh yeah Max Holloway hurt him with his boxing, he must be a can
<mma3>
Some of you are legit fucking retarded

Did you even watch the Holloway fight? The overwhelming reason why Poirier won is precisely because Max carried nearly zero power up to LW when he just tried to randomly hop divisions instead of properly moving up (like Poirier had). He could land all the strikes that he wanted, and did, but they didn't carry the same force Poirier's had because he was still just a 145lber.

So yeah, it was pretty alarming to see that Poirier still got hurt by him. That should've ended this fandom myth that Poirier's chin is any better than it used to be.

Dustin's been hurt in like nearly every LW fight he's had barring like Pettis, let alone when Johnson laid him out cold and Eddie finished him (regardless of the legality).

The idea his chin is any better at LW is a complete myth. He just got a bit more skilled and experienced so he survives more often, but he's still getting hurt and can be finished. Fucking Max hurt him lol.

This is a fairly based assessment.

I like Poirer and he's a fine fighter. Certainly a good guy who is worth rooting for outside of the cage. It's also just a plain fact that Conor matches up well with him.

Dustin gets tagged pretty frequently and doesn't have impressive defense. He's been one-punch slept on multiple occasions. He is a competent wrestler, but its not his forte. His weakness lines up exactly with Conor's strength.

It's MMA, it should be fun, anything can happen.... this is still one of the most favorable matches for Conor in the top 10.

Its not about hitting hard, its the accuracy on just the right spot that will drop Dustin.

Conor will do just that. Dustin will face the best counter sniper in the division and get demoralized quick just watch.
I'm not arguing that Conor can't beat Dustin, I'm calling bullshit on this "he'll get him out of there in round 1" bullshit, y'all are pedalling. Hooker, as much as i despise him, a city cockboxing gym member, meaning he's super well trained. you cannot tell me that his form, accuracy etc is THAAAAAAT far behind conor, in fact, that motherfucker has kickboxing credentials, man put some respeck on his name man lol. in fact lowkey, i'd love to see conor vs hooker. neither man seems capable of being knocked out (despise conor, but great chin)...back to dustin...the fight will be different. stop disrespecting dustin please. it's funny, conor fans always do this. "(insert name) is such a good fighter"....*(insert fighter) vs conor gets announced*, oh so and so has NO chance against conor. like conor steamrolled donald, who got shat on by tony and justin beforehand. let's not get crazy here. as for his striking, he's not izzy. he can and will get hit. dustin can and will find leg kicks, body kicks, etc. whether that will be enough...your guess is as good as mine...but from where i'm standing, if conor is as deadly as he was circa 2016...the fight is even. if he's not well, damn.

while i do think connor can easily win this... Connor hasnt slept anyone at 155....in fact he hasnt slept anyone in 6yrs which was aldo at FW.... if it goes passed the 2nd Poirier wins

Eddie was a TKO at 155.

Most of Conor's victories are TKOs.

Conor would die if he fought hooker like Poirier did

Lol Conor got a 40 second TKO at 170lbs this year.

Accuracy, speed, power, variety, counter punching.. Plus he badly KO'd Dustin already..

Dustin is in trouble..

My money is on Dustin. To fight hooker like he did for those opening rounds was a testament to his skill and durability.

Lack of skill more though, no defence at all and was down 0-2 in rounds does not look good. Conor will finish Dustin if he gets that open again

TKO means technical knockout...No one was slept...TS said Porier would go to sleep... not technically slept
exactly. i'd have to re-watch the sequence, but iirc Conor basically caught him behind ear (sorta back of head?) and that led to TKO. gun to my head i'm picking Conor to win again, but I think Dustin is definitely more durable now at 155, and has improved his skills of course

I’m not the biggest Conor fan, but what makes you think he’s past his prime? Isn’t that kind of an arbitrary assessment?
Your right, it is totally arbitrary at this point and he may prove me wrong next fight. But my feelings are he's 32 at this point and only fought 2x in the last 4 years which should have been his prime (28-32). I hope I'm wrong but I guess only time will tell.

Yet no one talks about how much Dustin’s boxing has improved since?
One guys improved greatly and has been working non-stop. The other is a part time fighter who trains with yes men.
I don’t see this is gonna be as one sided as people think.
Yet the defence and tendencies seem very much the same

Great fight but nothing in it showed me that Conor doesnt sleep Dusting inside 1 round again.

Srsly, Dusting is a walking punching bag, this fight will look bad for even being made afterwards like Conor vs Cerone.

I agree Dustin gets tagged up early and stopped within a rnd and 1/2.
