First of all good fight. Underrated fight in terms of striking battles that took place inside the octagon.
Both men displayed good boxing technique and movement. Yan with the stalking/cage cutting and Rivera with the evading/head movement. Both men threw good heat and counters but Yan was able to drop him which overshadowed the good things Jimmie was doing.

Yan clearly won but the holes in his standup game were evident. He had trouble catching Jimmie and was being countered himself. He didn't like that Jimmie was moving alot.

The latter part is interesting to look out for in Yan's next fight with Sterling. If he didn't like Jimmies movement, what's he gonna do about Sterling who's always moving around all over the place? How much has Yan improved?

Can't wait to find out.

Yeah it's like a showcase of fighting-smarts.

Jimmie's low-kicks really messed with Yan's boxing-game. He couldn't build momentum or enforce exchanges because of it, leaving him outpointed.

It's also really a showcase of X-factors winning someone the fight. In every round, Yan realized he was down with 1 minute left to go and switched athletic violent shit instead of trying to kickbox. It caught Riviera every time and Yan stole back the round.

This is exactly what i said before the Aldo fight. He did well against Aldo, but this isn't prime Aldo

Rivera's a very solid all-around striker with good footwork and distance management.

If Aljo's gameplan is to stand and strike with Yan, I don't think it will end well for him. He has good movement as well, but Yan's speed and power will win him the fight if it's a kickboxing match. Aljo's a very good grappler though so it is likely he'll try and implement that into his gameplan, it will be very interesting to see how Yan deals with it. Yan hasn't been tested by a grappler of Aljo's caliber (way past prime old man Urijah doesn't count).

If guys are moving a lot and not engaging for 3 rounds it's tough to catch them. It can be frustrating, I get it. Sterling won't be in front of Yan too much since he know he will get murdered there.

Aljo also fought Rivera and unlike Yan was able to outwork and outstrike him on the feet. That's what sold me on his striking. He doesn't need the takedown anymore.

Yeah. Low kicks work on yan was the big thing i took from that fight.

Aljo did better striking with Rivera than Yan did for the most part. I think Aljo's striking could pose problems for Yan because Aljo stays very long and keeps high output with kicks. That said, Aljo has made it clear that he's going to be like khabib and shoot until he gets yan down

Yeah im not gonna act like i know better than Sterling's coach but i do have some sherdog expertise.

A Khabib gameplan for Aljo seems too predictable of a tactic. Yan could time him on the way in.
A GSP/Mighty Mouse gameplan would be perfect imo. Just be unpredictable and well rounded in there.

Does Rivera have a fight booked?
Rivera is set to face Pedro Munhoz sometime in the near future.

I think Yan takes over in the championship rounds via pace and cardio agaimst Sterling.

I think Yan learned a lot from that fight and the Dodson fights. He looked much much cleaner vs Aldo and Uriah.

Wot? He looked like shit. He said it himself in his corner at the end of the first or 2nd round. Dude was just hanging around for a paycheck and it's not like he was getting blown away either lol.

Rivera gets slept on cuz he lost 3 fights in quick succession, but they were to Yan, Aljo, and Moraes. That's some RDA type luck there

Can't wait for Sterling-Yan

Past prime Aldo showed holes in Yan’s game as well. It was only when Aldo got tired that Yan had success.

I remember thinking Rivera would've won those first two rounds, hadn't it been for the knockdowns. He was showing us a lot of good things against Yan. But Yan is obv. young and a workhorse, so he will have closed up at least some of those holes. Dude really impressed me in the Aldo performance, the way he adjusted, and was forced to fight southpaw but still finish Aldo somehow. Truly a championship performance.
