... that was a silly fight.

I find it actually find it to be a cringe fest.

As a fan of MMA and a person who HATES wrestling (fake, entertainment wrestling) ... this fight is horrible. We have a giant man who has no MMA skills, come from the wrestling world to deliver the saddest looking hammer fists of all time. What were those hammer fists about? A big man dropping sad rapid hammer fists until Mir finally gets an easy submission on him.

Does anyone seriously remember the first time they watched this fight and how it made them feel?

It just felt wrong and was kinda embarrassing IMHO

What I remember the most about that fight is Steve Mazzagatti.

DW used to call those hands 'lunch boxes'. I think a Brock hammer fist was actually something to be worried about

Well

Lesnar vs Cain and Lesnar vs Overrem has to be some of the biggest mismtaches ever in the HW div

Sums up most of your posts tbh.

Not all of them though. Occasionally there's a sane thought here and there.

I'm way more sane than you'll ever be able to handle my friend, for reals

I don't really remember the fight that clearly, but I don't recall feeling that is was embarrassing though.

The second one was pretty bad too. Was a lot closer than the pounding ppl claim.

Brock basically kept turtling up till he could take Mir down and over-power him. He was like Bob Sapp, a beast, but one-dimensional, and crumbled under any pressure.

Yes, other stuff happened later. But it doesn't change the fact that Lesnar's first UFC fight was hard to watch in it's awfulness and lack of skill from Lesnar's part.

In Part II, Mir got emotional, super bulked up and a little insane, talking about how he wanted to kill Lesnar etc etc ... and then he threw that careless kick, fell his ass and Lesnar has a roid rage blackout, taking about fucking his wife, what beer he really likes, foaming out the mouth etc etc

I remember how crazy Sherdog and Rogan were about hammerfists and Brock's XXXL gloves.

People blame Mazzagatti a lot for that fight, but as per usual for some reason people like to exaggerate how hurt Mir is supposedly. People on sherdog were saying Duffee almost KO'd him even though that statement has no basis in reality.

Mir was firing off a shitload of submissions while Lesnar's GNP clearly needed work. Brock was a LOT more susceptible to getting submitted than Mir was to being TKO'd.

Iconic submission though. I love it.

Love Brock's hesitant tap by the way. I could hear his thoughts

"Oh no this hurts my knee, I gotta do something ... I know no MMA .... ummmm ummmmm guess I'll tap, fuck!"

That gif contains Mir's only offence in the fight.

He looked awkward because it was his second MMA fight, but it was still fun to watch. Brock really showed a ton of evolution in their rematch, smashing on Mir in halfguard like that to wear him out, then finish him with strikes.

I don't know man; I remember watching that fight live with a group of friends and everyone was going nuts. If I go back and watch it alone, it will probably be pretty mediocre, but I'm not going to deny that the fight had it's moment.

Yeah -- you summed it up perfectly. There were other fights on the card that were just 2 dudes dry humping for 15 minutes. Appreciate it for what it was. It was awesome.

Luck Mir struggled badly with a complete MMA novice. Remember when Ian Freeman pounded him out? I feel like Mir having any success is a terrible indictment on the state of Heavyweight MMA.
