Covington was stronger and backed Dos Anjos up most of the fight, but should’ve been yellow carded for all the stalling on the fence. Plus his boxing is atrocious.

The only thing I see him having on Woodley is cardio. Tyron beats him everywhere else

I see Woodley finishing him within 3 rounds.

I think there is a method to the madness with COlbys striking. Example, RDA completely worked Lawler (a striker) on the feet, but yet had troubles with Colby. If Colbys striking was as bad as you say, wouldn't he have got lit up? Colby took alot of risks, and RDA had many chances to catch him if it was there.

I think Covington will grind him out. Woodley may be a better wrestler, but he never uses it. He has been taken down by lesser wrestlers and out-paced a lot. Woodley will be done after two rounds if Covington wears on him like he did vs RDA. Covington is still hated and people still hope Woodley beats him. Lol.

If Woodley tries to fight like he did vs Wonderboy 1 and 2, Covington should hand him a loss.

i dont think people realise woodley has only scored 5 takedowns in all his ufc fights. hes 5 for 8. he barely uses his wrestling cuz he would gas doing so. i mention this and i get no response for whatever reason

American wrestling didn't work against the ropes in Pride.

What a joke sport UFC is.

The wonderboy fights had crazy moments

Covington humped his way to a snooze fest win

rewatched it too.
I think is unfair to say his boxing is atrocious when it is 100% functional and complimentary to his wrestling and pace. It looks more chaotic than it actually is. He controled the distance well enough and that's something he didn't do against maia so there's that.
I also don't see the "wild flailing" other people are. A lot of his punches go in a straight line and he never over commits. His clinch striking was very good also.
What i'm starting to see is that Colby's kicks have some real potential. He's a bit pillowfisted but those high kicks are always clean and have some snap to them. He needs to hide them more.

Other thing i noticed is that he's great at downplaying received damage. He took a clean blow to his chin at the beggining of the 4th and didn't lose composure.

To be fair to Colby this was his only way to win and he managed to get it done

If Tyron even takes the fight. It's been almost a year since he fought Maia and still no indication he's fighting soon. Still seems to be waiting for GSP but it's clear GSP is only interested in less dangerous opponents

Colby's striking was all about pressure and crashing his way into clinches and takedown attempts. Not terribly pretty or super technical, but it got the job done. Colby also found that he could take what RDA could dish.

I think Tyron hits too hard for the same strategy to work.

Woodley's power is over-rated. He landed a good shot on Lawyler, other than that he KOed a shot Koshcek. He is reluctant to engage and has lost to a ground fighter, Shields. Woodley is also 36, a bit past his prime. It should be a competitive fight, I would not be surprised if Covington wins on cardio; I just do not think Woodley can keep Covington's relentless pace.

Out of all of Woodley’s past opponents the one most similar in skill and style would easily be Koscheck.

1. Woodley has improved since that fight.

2. Kos was a better striker than Colby.

3. I picked Colby to beat RDA but there’s absolutely no fucking way he’s beating Woodley.

Styles make fights... he’s got no answer for Woodley.

That's it. Nailed it. Woodley doesn't use his wrestling because his striking is so good, it is because he gasses so easily and would lose the fight. That is why the Colby fight is really interesting. Even Colby claims he made Woodley quit after 2 rounds in practice, and it kind of makes you wonder now doesn't it Haha.

There was no stalling on the fence he was always going for the takedown transition. Stalling on the fence was holm

The thing that sticks out is guys like colby is not afraid to stink the place out with a boring but efficient fight plan.

That was not an exciting fight - well bits of it here and there - but it was an example of sticking to a game plan and not worrying if you're pleasing the crowd.

The Stand up version of this is Holly Holm - working off straight punches and lateral movement. Not exciting or just bleed crowd pleasing but can get you a win.
