Just back from Rome. Ramblings of a sherdogger

Had a small vacay in Rome a few weeks ago.
9$ for a pint of beer in bar. Ffs

The pizza was horrible, I was on a quest to seek out the best pizza and tried 7 different pizzerias. Really, really disappointed. Column and Vatican was nice, but filled with annoying tourists. Tbh, these always looked much better in movies than in real life.

Wine is dirt cheap, but only bitches drink wine.

I'd give the trip a solid 2/10. The only positive side was a hella nice AirBnB apartment we crashed at.

Shit man. That's unfortunate. The beer was very expensive. I forgot about that. And they sold it in 200ml form. Who the hell drinks beer by the 200mls? Pints God dammit!

And from what I've read they are useless. Those things are worn by surgeons to protect the patient being operated on from germs that the surgeon may spread from his mouth not the other way round. They aren't going to stop airborne viruses at all lol.
At least they being unknowingly benevolent, I guess....haha. Whatever you're doing, you should stop it, and start writing...that was funny as hell.

go on.

i was there in 04'. it was pretty cool. i agree with the threadstarter. the pizza was fantastic! something about how the crust and toppings mesh together to create one uniform thing was awesome. i stayed around the termini station, and it was an okay area. very touristy, but still cool. had no problems with locals. actually had a few locals speak italian to me, to which i replied, "what?" followed by them either walking away, or saying, "mi dispiace", or however it's spelled. would go again, but not during the time i went. it was too fucking hot.

The Asians wearing masks are sick or getting sick. They wear the mask so they don't spread that shit around when they cough or exhale close to a person. It's a courtesy, you low IQ having motherfuckers. They're doing you a favor.

it's just a guess, but i think they probably are always sick because they're so afraid of germs. it's good to be around a certain amount of germs, so that your body builds a tolerance to it. the people who usually get sick are incredible germaphobes.

No review on the senorinas? I am disappoint.

Haven't been to Rome. Been to Belfast though. Loved it, liked it better than Dublin at least, but Dublin is funner.
My sister went to Rome last year and her comments are consistent with your assessment.

Barcelona is the most beautiful city I've visited.
Also liked Victoria in BC, Canada. Charming little place.

Mate Im from Portadown and Ive never seen anyone compare Belfast to Rome haha. Rome is full of cunts though.

My old housemate was from Italy, he always said parts of Rome were a dump compared to Belfast. So there's two comparisons!

<{Joewithit}>

That's even worse than 25ml measures in Britain.

maybe it's just my personal taste, but i found the chicks in rome overrated. some hotties for sure, but i saw hotter chicks in other areas of europe.

I know a thing or two about eating 10 inches of heaven.
Call me...

The locals.
80% of them are rude assholes. You try to ask for directions or ask for anything and they either don't reply or they make it seem like you've asked them to for a reacharound in the middle of the street. They don't say sorry for bumping into you. Ever! In Ireland we always always apologise if you bump into someone or do that awkward thing were you both try to go the same way. In Rome they walk in a straight line and they don't stop. They will plough right through you. I nearly broke out my UFC training on them a few times.
Is it a big city thing or a pick pocketing thing, perhaps?

The Asian tourists wearing face masks really annoyed me. It's not really a big deal but yeah I don't get it. Seriously can someone explain that to me?
They don’t want to spread their cold to others on vacation or they think Italians carry diseases.

Thanks for the write up. Would love to visit Rome someday.

A fellow old school pizza fan. Nice

i really would like to know why some asians wear those face masks? is it because of allergies or just protection from pollution?

Some wear them out of respect for others because they are sick and don't want to spread their llness. Others will wear them in large groups to keep from getting sick. Usually it's the former though.

I visited there back in 1995(?) and it was beautiful. Saw the sights and had some great food. I'm a Black dude and a lot of the ladies wanted to take pictures with me so I obliged.

If they used my pic for fap material...

I was in Rome for 4 days with my wife for her birthday. I arrived back in Dublin last night and here are some of my findings.

It was the most beautiful city I have ever visited; and I live in Belfast. The landmarks are incredible. The Colosseum blew my mind. I have seen it on TV thousands of times but nothing could have prepared me for the real thing. Incredible. We did the Gladiators entrance and stood on the arena floor. Crazy to think about what happened where we were and looking over to see where the Emperor sat.

The Pantheon is also incredible. I look at these structures and wonder how the hell they built them. There are bigger buildings now but they are made of glass and steel and are lifeless. The buildings in Rome and from the Roman empire are beautiful.

The Trevi fountain was beautiful. Very romantic spot and there are plenty of alleyways nearby if you want to fingerblast your partner due to the sheer romantic intensity.

The Circo Massimo was disappointing. It was the setting for the famous chariot races we have all seen. Unfortunately time hasn't been kind to it. There is not alot left of it.

The forum and Palantine Hill are wonderful places. You really get a feel for what life was like during the Roman Empire. And in my opinion the best empire.

Spanish steps were cool. Not much to say about them.

The food was the best food I've ever had. I'm a pizza snob. I used to work in a pizza shop over here with a family from Napoli who took great pride in their pizzas. So I know a thing or two about eating 10 inches of heaven. People I know who have been to Rome said they prefer our pizzas. Those people are fools. The pizzas we are used to; Dominos etc are dogshit. Thick doughy things smothered in too many toppings. A real pizza is nice thin base. Tomato sauce and mozzarella. Maybe parmesan to give it a kick. No need to turn it into a cake with 100 toppings. The pizzas are lit. The pasta is lit. Everything I ate in Rome was great.

Now onto the negatives:

The locals.
80% of them are rude assholes. You try to ask for directions or ask for anything and they either don't reply or they make it seem like you've asked them to for a reacharound in the middle of the street. In Rome they walk in a straight line and they don't stop. They will plough right through you. I nearly broke out my UFC training on them a few times.

The drivers have the same philosophy. I have no idea how more people don't die on the roads. They are death traps.

Everywhere you go there are pests trying to sell selfie sticks, water etc. They are not too bad. The real assholes are the guys who come up to you and say "are you from Africa?" In order to start a conversation and get money from you. No you absolute rocket I am not from Africa. Did everything about me scream "Nelson Mandela?"

The Asian tourists wearing face masks really annoyed me. It's not really a big deal but yeah I don't get it. Seriously can someone explain that to me?

The outskirts of Rome are disgusting. I'm from Belfast. Shit used to blow up here every day. Belfast is much cleaner and nicer in its worst parts than Rome. The government must be pocketing serious money because the train station, everything is run down. I don't know how it is allowed.

So to sum up. Rome was incredible. A place to visit if you never have. One of the best holidays I've been on. Anyone else want to share their experience of Rome?

The bangladeshi and africans trying to sell you stuff are very annoying but the worst are the gypsies because they not only bug people but they also steal from tourists, especially in the metro. And yeah, Rome's outskirts are truly depressing and ugly, I think you didn't even see the truly depressing parts tho.
Have you been to the Capitoline Museums? that's where the cool ancient roman shit is kept.

I was in Rome over a decade ago, got escorted from the airport by more police vans that I've ever saw in my life.

was advised not to got into the city or used the metro, then in the evening, I got myself caught up in this.

That was a negative but damned if you find a more beautiful city. Most cities would be lucky to have one of Rome's landmarks. It's quite amazing.

Try Vienna. It is a clean and classy alternative. Especially if you love your Holy Roman Empire history.

No. We missed out on a lot. We didn't do the Vatican at all either. Definitely could do another trip there to see all we missed.

Vienna is on the list. Europeans really are spoiled for choice. Americans have a huge task on their hands to see things that are on our doorstep. There was a couple from Oregon in Rome. Said it took them 14 hours to get to Rome. That is brutal.

I was on a greyhound bus for 42 hours, Chicago to Vegas, that was brutal
