The media is all over it, and the big-time Democrat politicians were using the "attack" to excuse their policies. If it was just the right-wingers pushing the story, nobody would have given much of a shit. Of course, they are pushing it now that Smollett has been exposed as a total fraud, but previously, the pushing was being done by the left (when they still somehow believed that this hoax artist wasn't pulling a con on them).

I don’t know what the cable news channels are doing but it wasn’t getting much coverage in the newspapers and websites I frequent. I didn’t realize so many high profile politicians had said something. It’s a tweet though. They all said racism and homophobia are bad. They come out of this looking pretty stupid, but it’s because some dumbass staged this entire thing for his own benefit. Hard to really hold that against them, especially the ones who have since made another statement condemning what Jussie did. His name still cracks me up.

No, it was made big by a D list celebrity feeding a story to the media/police based on fraudulent circumstances planned out for conspiratorial shockvalue by a crazy dude. And since you're probably not smart enough to get why your random "cory booker and kamala harris" attack (people I' hate btw) is so stupid: imagine this was that story about the crooked cops who planted drugs and shot people with a fake warrant in Houston. When the news first broke many people like say, Fox News, might have said "wow how dangerous, this story shows how dangerous cop work is and to trust them more" after hearing a bunch of cops got shot.
Then when it came out the cops were dirty, I can't just say "omg Fox was peddling a fake procop story those assholes!" because at the time it was seemingly true and fit the narrative they want to push politically. Nobody is trying to deny this dude is batshit now.
