Man, Bruce has nice technique on the ukemi and that tomoenage. But what else would you expect from such a natural!
also though some might say that osoto escape is flashy movie stuff, something similar is regularly done at the highest level by lightweights. EDIT: Sorry not osoto.
Didn't Gene once say that he could handle Bruce on the ground (on the feet he got tooled by his own admission) which is what prompted Lee to start learning Judo from Lebell?
What prompted Lee to learn Judo from Gene LeBell is a small incident from when they met on the set of the Green Hornet. He has it posted here on his website, but I'll put the quote in the spoiler to save those from clicking. Spoiler According to Gene, Bruce absolutely loved to roll but he thought it was real difficult to portray grappling well on film at the time. That didn't keep him from throwing a few choke holds on some of his on-screen opponents (Kareem in "Game of Death" and Chuck in "Return of the Dragon" namely), and even using a slick crucifix/arm-bar on Samo in "Enter the Dragon."
the armbar in enter the dragon is far from "slick", it's not legit at all it doesn't surprise me that bruce never got ranked in judo
for someone that is supposed to be the godfather of mma you would think he would have spent enough time doing judo to have an official rank
Well, let's put this in perspective: Who called Bruce Lee the Godfather of MMA? Dana White did 30 years after his death. He (Lee) ever proclaimed himself as anything such. I don't think you can hold that against him.
