I remember Joe Riggs fought Jason Von Flue who is the inventor of the von flue choke. In the fight, Joe Riggs, nailed him with an EPIC Judo throw!

I say this because of the Karo thread and it reminded me that Riggs had some epic throws and badass ground and pound.

Pic of Riggs posing for Sherdog and online MMA fans with his lovely wife Lisa.

It's funny you remember Joe Riggs judoing someone, because the first thing that popped into my mind was that brutal judo throw Devela hit him with years back in Strikeforce

I think Judo is very underrated in MMA today. I really love the "pulling techniques" more than the pushing techniques because if you're very good at takedown offence via wrestling, it flows beautifully into your takedown defence as a form of offence. Most people are good at judo but suck at wrestling, or vice versa such as Ronda/Karo P. Would love to see someone who was very skilled at both in the UFC. In my mind I'm imagining a Fedor like grappler with Mark Coleman like shooting ability :)

Karo had decent wrestling. Karo had a more diverse grappling background since he was also a catch wrestler and a sambo guy. While Ronda was more focused on the sport aspect of judo.

Exact same thought I had. He tapped to a Judo throw

Joe Riggs had decent wrestling?!

Someone should have told him before one of his fights.

Riggs always had decent wrestling, he wrestled D1 I believe. He always had great boxing though, very underrated boxing. He just had difficulties being putting in all together along with consistancy, personal issues/injuries and changed weight classes way too many times.

I saw him go one for one on takedown attempts in a bare knuckle gypsy boxing match.

I agree with his boxing. His dad put him in a boxing gym when he was 5 years old and what I have noticed when I got to MMA was that, Joe Riggs had a very traditional boxing stance while 99 percent of MMA fighters fought in a Thai kickboxing stance during the early-mid 2000s.
