Josh Thomson appreciation thread

Agree on the Benson fight. I was the Pinkman meme from Breaking Bad when Bendo was read the decision win. ffs.

Very awesome and underappreciated fighter. He def got robbed against Bendo.

Not a fan of his commentary and whatnot for Bellator though.

I always loved that despite being a decision fighter, he was the only one who could finish Nate.
Got the sense that Dana didn't like him because he seemed likely to both wrestlefuck the #1 or get ko'd by a mid-ranked guy on any given night, and wasn't enough of a personality to be desirable as that sort of rankings-disruptor. Matching him up against Tony for his last ufc fight was a classic fuck-you-on-your-way-out move, in league with Werdum/JDS and Tito/Machida.

Given what he showed in the ring, he deserves to be remembered as one of the elites of his generation. Under different circumstances (and decisions) he could have easily had a turn holding the ufc strap.

One of the most overlooked pioneers of modern MMA, in my opinion. An iconic lightweight without a doubt.

His entire career (first pro fight was in 2001...JEEZ!), he was one of the top lightweights in the world. Was a top 10 LW during most of his career, and he could do it all: very good standup game, cardio for days, very nice subs, and underrated wrestling.

Had it not been for the UFC discontinuing the LW division when it seemed ready to explode, I think that guy would have been as iconic in the mainstream as the Chuck Liddells and Rich Franklins of this world. His second UFC run was a bit underwhelming, despite some shining moments (anyone else ever stop Nate Diaz, and with a head kick???), but his losses weren't ugly by any stretch of the imagination.

Tons of respect for this guy, great fighter!

22 Wins 16 by KO or Sub. I don't think that's a decision fighter

Just checked it, and you are definitely right, I was wrong to call him a decision fighter. It's weird, could have sworn his record was way more filled with decisions, even remember seeing that in my wiki research back in the day. Must have succumbed to some sort of mandella effect.
