First and foremost, this is no excuse for Josh’s performance, he fought his heart out,” Wren said. “But we were left hanging by, what I consider, the worst experience I’ve ever had with a cutman. … He told us, ‘I’m so experienced. I’ve been around the game for a long time. Sorry if I messed up the first round, but we fixed him up after the second round.’ But, for a world title fight against Ivanov, our cutman was paying attention to Ivanov instead of our corner.

Justin Wren said:
Literally, me and Jake Ramos – head coach at Grudge with Trevor Wittman – we were yelling for the cutman; our other two two cornermen who aren’t in the cage are yelling for the cutman because Josh has a two-inch gash under his eye,” Wren said. “From the right side to the left side. He’s getting stitches right now. We’re yelling for the cutman and he’s nowhere to be found. After the end of the first round, we’re walking out to start the second round and he starts walking up to our corner after the first round is over. We asked where he was and he said, ‘I was paying attention to Ivanov.

So there was only one cut man for both fighters?
Doesn't each corner get assigned a cut man every fight? I'm sure theres got to be something in the AC bylaws about that. What happens when both fighters are cut? Well I guess we just found out lol

That's definitely the fucked up though, people don't often realize a good cutman is what gives us the epics that go the length.

Fedor was too busy making sure he picked the right judges for his fight to make sure cutmen were hired. ;)

Erm. One happened in St Petersberg and one happened in Conneticutt?

I usually hate to use the term bush league... but if a heavyweight title fight only had one cutman for two fighters..that's bush league.

Given the location of the cut, I really don't see it impacting Cuddly's performance. Maybe more stiches after the fact or a longer scar.

However, whether it impacted or not, the cutman wandering off because something fascinating was happening somewhere else is really inexcusable.

I don't get if he was helping Ivanov or just distracted by watching Ivanov get worked on.
Thanks,
Eric

Yeah I don't think the cut impacted Copeland's performance but this sounds pretty ridiculous if it actually happened. Good fight though by both guys, Copeland did better than expected.

That's a really shitty situation.

One thing I want to say though is props the Copeland for keeping himself a name. Guy was an RFA champ, went 0-2 in the UFC and many times guys just fizzle out after that, but he got a couple wins and fought Minakov in Russia and fought Ivanov for a title, even though both were losses.

A lot more than I expected from a regional heavyweight. Hoping he gets paid well because he never turns down a challenge.
