Jose Aldo's smart defensive techniques vs calf kicks

Nah, it's directly a narrative. There have been many worse decisions. Aldo fans just go extra hard for him. Is normal.

Two wrongs don't make a right.
Or should we ignore every bad decision until something worse than Diego vs Pearson happens lol

Aldo won that fight.

At the very least though I think its one of those fights you can consider pretty much a draw.

Nah he didn't tho so.

it's not new. And Nate won the fight with Pettis largely due to injuring him by checking a kick.

basically nothing is "new" but meta means its the thing that is popular that wasn't before. Checking kicks like this is not new but very few fighters are doing it because it hasn't caught on yet.

Respectfully disagree but you're actually right about it being not that big of a robbery. Just stings a bit more when it happens to a legend you've been watching forever.

I think his point is it's easier said than done, it looks simple but pivoting and moving like that is hard to do in a fight. It's the same as saying why don't people just use the same technique Aldo uses to defend takedowns, he makes that look easy too? the answer is because they can't.

That's years and years of practice, it's muscle memory for Jose, it's already been added to his toolbox. I tried doing those pivots in defense against takedowns when I spar, it just breaks my rythm.
I myself prefer to sprawl.

Calves kicks became effective when MMA fighters started forgetting their Muay Thai roots. McGregor started an era of "Boxing/Karate" type strikers in MMA. Back in 2014, everyone started widening their stance, going southpaw and throw spinning back kicks/ straight lefts. If you guys remember, McGregor was shitting on Thai boxing back then and I really felt the effect of it in MMA gyms. The tide is shifting, new champion like Shevchenko, Adesanya, Yan and Gane are making Muay Thai shine again.
Imo, Adesayna is more a Boxing/Karate fighter than a Thai Boxer. I would put Volkanoviski in his place, tbh.
