There are multiple threads here about Aldo's liver shot that KOed Stephens. The thing is, it was not a liver shot, unless Stephens' liver was transferred to the left side of his body.

Aldo's punch was truly powerful and I believe it landed on Stephens' stomach which might not be as damaging as a liver shot but it can literally take your breath away and drop you. Kudos to Aldo.

put his entire weight behind that shot, literally leapt off his feet

this picture wasnt taken at the time of impact, its after impact

was a liver shot

Solar plexus. Mma fans & media arent smart enough to know the difference.

Ya I thought it was to the solar plexus it stiffens you up and shit

Whatever it was it was brutal. The replays and gifs do it no justice.
In real time it was a sickening blow

Nope, when it's solar plexus it takes your breath immediately, while liver shot takes a second to feel.

It was a liver shot for sure. See the twisted skin? Obviously the punch dragged it along from the actual point of impact, which was, *gasp*, on the liver.

Edit: Dug out the gif of the finish, struggling to understand how anyone could think that was anything but a liver shot.

Pay attention to the arc of the punch, not the landing itself as much. Aldo does a 'shoveling' kind of a motion to dig his knuckles right into the liver. The initial point of impact is on the liver, and while the punch glances off of that spot immediately, it obviously was enough.

I'm genuinely curious: just how do you see that punch landing on the left side of Stephens' body?

That picture doesnt show the exact moment of impact. He threw a hook that didnt stop right were it landed.

Bro, all I know is that many called me a Conor nut hugger around here, but I weeped tears of joy for Jr last night. That dude has been thru so much shit in his life and has just owned it and overcame everything. It sucks that mixed martial arts puts us at odds now and again, and you can't support one without supporting the other. I was rooting for him so hard, and as soon as he got the finish, I was like @Dozer must be losing his f'n mind right now if I'm crying. This is the greatest sport in the world, by a long shot, with the greatest athletes, the greatest fans, the greatest SherBros, and by a long shot.

what hurts....is the liver. He hit the "epigastric region" cleanly...that's.....a lot of liver.

Liver has a right and left lobe. It extends from right to the left with right side being bigger and tapering off to left. I would say it's a lil too far forward to be called a "liver shot" but could still have effected it if hard enough to cause concussion ripples more to back part of body.

It looks like theirs a slash in Jeremy's stomach lol
