He's come a long way since the flying head stomps and rampaging reckless soccer kicks of his early days and become a much more disciplined, calculated and certainly a better rounded fighter.. However, Aldo's one big fault, even in the face of a performance as dominant and clear-cut as his dissection of a surging Frankie Edgar is his mercy.

Watching him circle and pepper Frankie with ripping shots that saw Frankie's bloody face ricochet about his shoulders I couldn't help but notice how rarely he committed to following-up and following through. One shot here. Maybe two shots there. No extended combination. No going in for the kill.

It reminded me of when he let Uriah Faber limp helplessly through two rounds to a decision, when I can't help but imagine he could have easily jumped in and put a stop to the fight earlier.

If there's one weakness in Aldo's game other than Conor McGregor, it's that he doesn't pull the trigger like he used to. It seems to me like he lets guys hang to a decision with him sometimes as though out of respect. Not a good quality for a fighter in this sport and not a smart game plan to let guys stick around and maybe get back in the fight.

He didn't commit to maniy shots because he was weary of the takedown. I dont think it has to do with mercy.

He looked pretty steady. I'm not disappointed by his performance. I think he should be the favorite for the rematch with McGregor but I definitely want McG to win

You think so? Edgar was outside. He had no ability to close the distance and as much as Edgar has shown resilience to recover he seemed thoroughly broken early on.

I'm not disappointed. I thought he looked incredible. It's something I've noticed since the Faber fight. I'm curious about it and haven't seen the topic addressed.

I expected him to show up against Edgar in WEC-mode on after he stated that the loss against McG gave him new motivation and that he wanted to go back to his roots... well it didn't seem to me.

I think he showed a different aspect of his game. Helwani and his crew afterwards called it "vintage Aldo" how was that vintage Aldo? They should stick to talking about story lines behind fights.

Dana said he played it safe or coasted - can't remember. I enjoyed the fight and thought it was a good come back for Aldo. It's just that we're used to seeing him in brawls or beating someone up, some folk will say he ran and was probably hesitant because of worries over his chin. But one thing is for sure, I doubt many people imagined before the fight it would go down that way. He fought smart.

Crazy, FRABKIE WAS SPOKEN OF BEFORE THE FIGHT "JEDIESQUE", by some people on here. Aldo made that GODLY individual look mere mortal, rather, quote below average, just shows how GREAT ALDO IS!!!!!

He won 4 rounds and the last 2 were possible 10-8 rounds.

What more does he need to do?

He meant his muay thai roots, which he clearly has.

Him and Anderson both look like they could finish fights if they went for it, but they don't.

He had Faber locked in a crucifix and was pounding on his face.

Faber was just tough as nails and refused to fold throughout that one-sided beating.

GTF outta' here...

Oh, and if Aldo really possessed "mercy" he wouldn't have blasted Mendes in the face well after the bell in their second fight.

Something I've noticed is that Jose Aldo has always shown mercy to his opponents towards the end of the match when the other opponent is really busted up and when he is sure he has won the match already.

You can say it's because he is tired, but I don't think so. In situations like these where some other fighters might throw in some extra punches to add to the damage inflicted on the opponent in order to make himself look great with a stronger finish; Jose instead always seems to take his foot off the pedal and chooses not to inflict anymore un-necessary damages.

One example is of course the match we just saw between Aldo and Frankie. Towards the last 30 seconds or minute, Aldo had Frankie in many situations where he could have done some more damage to Frankie, but decides to not hurt Frankie anymore when the fight is already won.

This can also be seen in the fight against Faber where Faber was kicked so bad he could not even stand straight. If you watch the last round towards the end, Aldo, again had plenty of chances to inflict additional damage, and again, he eased back.

I don't quite remember the ending of Aldo vs Hominick, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did the same thing at the end.

He has my respect.

Aldo will always look like a world beater.

Except for every time he steps in a cage with McGregor.

He was throwing combo's

He was throwing knees

But most of the time when he landed, he would pivot out of the way of the counters. He fought smart. He left no doubt who is the best FW fighter right now.
